Sorry folks, but my low post count doesn't permit posting pictures right now. Once that changes I'll come back and update the thread.
In the meantime pictures are available on google drive https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ldI9oette5oOz5Lth3iGNeUNSlSINtBR?usp=sharing

I needed a decent case since the Glock case wasn't cutting it, especially with the keyed trigger lock making it hard to close, and no way to lock it.
Currently, I only have one pistol (Glock 17), so a case with the capacity for a single gun is all that I needed, but with space enough to put in a few magazines and the odd bits like speed loader, a small container of lube/solvent and the cleaning rod.
The Options
After looking around I found 3 options, Pelican 1200- $69.98, Nanuk 909- $79.95 and a the Amazon Basics Camera Case -$ 41.99 https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01L0LVDJO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Both the Nanuk and Pelican are great cases, but cost more than what I felt like spending, so I went with the Amazon Case. Ordered this morning and arrived this evening before dinner.
The Basics
It's not as fancy as the competitors, and only comes in black. The plastic is non-uniform in colour and texture, but seems quite thick and sturdy. I haven't drop tested it to see how well it stands up to abuse, this will happen at some point in the future by accident.
Weight is about 2.2 kg, so it has some heft to it which is reassuring.
It's claimed water tight at 1 meter for up to 30 minutes and a purge valve is present.
It is lockable. Two holes along the handle side will let you throw on some pad-locks and meet storage requirements.
Dimensions
Interior size was important for me. I needed to be able to fit what I wanted (pistol, a few mags and extra bits) but without having to go to a larger more expensive case. I included interior measurements for the other two cases for comparison.
Amazon Basic Int dimensions 27.6cm(L) X 20cm(W) X 11.9cm(H)
Pelican 1200 Int dimensions - 23.49cm(L) X 18cm(W) X 10.4cm(H)
Nanuk 909 Int dimensions - 29cm(L) X 17.7cm(W) X 9.3cm(H)
As you can see it's larger than both cases, except in length where the Nanuk edges it out by 1.4cm.
What's inside
It comes with 4 foam inserts. One egg carton foam piece for the lid, plus two pick n' pull inserts and a thin solid piece lining the bottom under the two pick n' pulls. This gives you a myriad of customization options and layouts.
After fiddling around I can say that it will take my G17, and 3 magazines apart from the one in the gun, and still have some space left over for small items like a speed loader or what have you.
The case is quite deep, if you were to remove the squares from both pick n' pull inserts you could put in more mags or maybe a small case of 9mm shells.
I still haven't decided on a layout yet. But I do like that there is enough space and foam to let's me arrange things as I please.
You could also fit two G17's and no extra mags (except for the ones already in the gun) which is nice if you have more than one Glock, and you are fine with putting everything else in a range bag.
Conclusion
Maybe not as pretty or polished as the Pelican or Nanuk, and time will tell how it holds up to abuse, but for $40 and change I definitely think it's a viable alternative.
I hope this helps people looking for a decent case that won't break the bank. Please feel free to ask questions.
