Ambi-fying my Stag 10

i recently picked up a Stag-10 in Left hand configuration and i finally got some time off to play around with it, take it down, give it a bath in G96 and such.
i noticed that none of the controls on it are ambi - which i find strange since the gun is a left handed one.
so, guess im gonna have to switch out the controls.

my question is can i just run normal AR-15 ambi controls or are the AR-10 controls a different size?

there are really only 4 to switch out.

1) the charging handle - im assuming this is AR-10 specific due to the increased size in the BCG

2) the Bolt Catch / Release - can i use a magpul BAD or a phase 5 on a AR-10?

3) saftey switch - again can i just swap out with a AR-15 one or are the AR-10 ones a different size?

4) mag catch - looks like this is just a AR-15 one so i should be able to just replace with a AR-15 one?

Looks like a no go on the B.A.D. lever for the S10, Phase 5 looks like it works as per thread below. The issue you might run into is the Bad lever will be in the way of the ambi mag release. Maybe, unless you can train your finger to skip over the lever. Certainly would suck to be dumping a mag and hit the BAD lever at the same time. I could be wrong on the interference issue.

As far as the mag catch is concerned there are many options Troy industries, Norgon, etc. Alot seem to go the Norgon route and use the AR15 version;

but I believe that's because they are unaware that there is a specific AR10 heavy version from Norgon as well. Or the distributer/dealers only bring in the AR15 version.Either way both will work, but there must be a reason why Norgon makes 2 different models of catch release.

Parts that are typically not compatible between the AR-15 and AR-10:

Rifle Buffers: Most rifle buffers on the AR-10 are shorter and heavier than the AR-15 to accommodate the longer .308 bolt carrier group and the force from a larger round. This means they cannot be interchanged. However, the buffer tubes are the same length, making them compatible with either rifle. It should be noted that the buffer tube for the Armalite style AR-10 collapsible stock carbine features a unique length and only works with this model.

Barrels: Because the AR-10 and AR-15 are chambered in two different calibers, the barrels are not interchangeable. The barrels threads and barrel nut extensions are also not interchangeable.
Handguards and rail systems: Because of the barrel nut size difference between the AR-10 and AR-15, the handguards and rail systems are not interchangeable.

Bolt catch: An AR-15 bolt catch is not compatible with most AR-10 lowers.

Lower parts kit: A standard lower parts kit for an AR-15 will normally not work with an AR-10. This is due to the differences in the takedown pin, bolt catch and other lower receiver pins.

Magazine catch: The magazine catch in the Armalite AR-10 features a unique design that makes it incompatible with the AR-15 or any other AR model. (Standard AR-15 magazine catch will fit DPMS style AR-10)

Muzzle device: Since AR-10 and AR-15 are chambered in different calibers, most muzzle devices are not interchangeable, except if your AR-15 is chambered in 300 Blackout, then you might be able to use AR-10 muzzle devices.

I swapped controls on my lefty stag 10 with ambi stuff. This is what I used.
Raptor AR10 charging handle
Regular AR15 norgon style mag catch. I got the true north arms cheaper one. Do not get the one they sell for BCL102, it is too long for stag 10
AR15 ambi selector from MRA.

I haven't done an ambi bolt release. My index finger finds the stock one quite well. Seems like the right handed bolt release was really made for Lefty's!
 
The main reason for the lack of Stag arms products is back in Nov 2019 they announced that they would be moving there facility from Connecticut to Wyoming. Now that that they have completed the move, we should see more product come back online with new markings.

Hang in there, I am only assuming but prehaps by the end of January we should see product from the new facility. As I too am waiting to buy an LH AR15.

Even the Stag arms website has not been updated to the new location yet, sign up to the email list and get the updated news as soon as it becomes available.
 
update.
picking away at the ambi stuff as i get time.

i ended up having a brand new NEA ambi safety sitting in my parts bin from a couple years back still in the package.
i put that on, works good!

i had a issue with the bolt release dropping by itself so i moved that to the top of the list of things to replace and picked up a Phase 5 Tactical Extended Bolt Release V2 .308 and that fixed the issue i was having with the bolt release and gave me ambi bolt release all in one shot.

gonna order up a Radian Raptor LT Ambidextrous Charging Handle AR-10 and a ambi magazine release for giggles.
that should get it all done.
all in that will be around $250 all said and done - $300 if you add the ambi safety i had in the parts bin.
 
i got it from Wild West in Edmonton.
they where the only place i could find that had the AR-10 version.

its called "Phase 5 Tactical Extended Bolt Release V2 .308"

the V2 is the one ya need for a AR-10.

question:

why is the front hand-guard on the AR-10 not compatible with the AR-15 ones?
im too lazy to go dig out my guns and have a look.
im guessing that because the barrel has a bigger diameter the barrel nut is bigger, hence the hand-guard mounting area is bigger?

TY, that's where I ended up too. Although they do want a couple of more dollars for it then Tenda, but they are out of stock :( I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pay the shipping.

Go ahead rub it in. JK, :) Good score. Was emailing Phase 5 today and they just finished another batch of 100 units perhaps some of those will be going
to Tenda and I can just pick it up there.
 
Hey WUN, do you feel the Phase 5 EBR interferes with your ambi mag release at all? Does it hinder the op, or get hit by mistake while reaching for the mag release? Thanks.
