Ambi mag release for STI.

What I do is use my left thum its working good for me and you don't shift your grip and I find the mag always comes out.

I just received an e-mail from the guy at Speed Shooters in Burbank, and he said that he just received my mag catch back in the mail. Apparently the sending label with my address on it was damaged, so it was returned. Better than being lost I guess. He was sending it out again today. Maybe I really will have it by Christmas. If so, I know where I'll be that day.

Southpaw.

i just ordered one yesterday. Hopefully it will in before the end of month.
Hopefully my ammo will also be in so I can test it.
It says "drop-in", but do you think it is really "drop in"??

yeah, I am (99.9%) going to get a 2011 this month, but I am right handed.
My 1st pistol was an HK, and I am used to using my trigger finger to press the mag release; I am really used to it!
The Edge is set up for right hand shooters (like myself) who use their thumb for mag release; but I want to use my trigger finger instead. That is why I am ordering the right side mag release. I will continue to shoot production with my USP, but want to experience shooting in standard with the STI.

Yes it's a drop-in, but there's a little trick to getting the OEM unit out.....:runaway:

care to share.........?
Well, it's a bit complicated to write out. Get a manual and look at the pictures.

Thing is, the little screwhead you can see on the right hand side of the mag release isn't a screw. It's a 1/4 turn latch. You have to turn it CCW to release it. BUT... because the body of the mag release has to move laterally, that latch is spring loaded. The latch itself has to stay engaged with the frame. You have to play with the mag release button a bit, while exerting a bit of CCW force to the screw head, to find the slot that the latch can be turned into.

Like I said.... look at the pics.

Anyone want my my S/S unit for $150.00

Just press the mag release and gently turn the screw....it require about 1/2 to 3/4 turn.....but when you press you need to find the sweet spot about 3/4 way depress.......then the whole just slide out on the righthand side.

I'm sure you will like your edge.....good for you, you may find that the factory ammo quite a bit more healthy then most reload in 40SW .....dillon has good press ;)

I Just received the right side mag catch in the mail today. I just walked in the door, and the wife handed it to me. About 3 minutes later it was in the gun, and the mags drop out just fine. Finally I can stop using the excuse, "There's something in my eye", everytime we have to do a drill that requires a reload on practice night. So simple to change out. Just a small flat head screwdriver and an allen wrench and it's done. Better get back on those dry fire reload drills again.

Just going to go into town to get a small enough screwdriver, I had other ones from PA, but can't find them. Gun is gorgeous BTW.

**Update, I just used my HK adjustable sight tool to take the OEM piece out, and put the Mitchell piece in. Feels very similiar in dexterity to my USP, except the USP is pressed down. The Mitchell is pressed in. The only thing I would like to do it file the bottom half of the Mitchell button, as it tends to rub into my second finger.
light dremel should fix that.

update. There is a little pin on the inside of the mag release that may come loose. One small tap and it is back in place. Probably came loose when I was dremeling/smoothing the bottom edge of the button.

Also at the back of the mag release housing, which is flush with the frame, there is a little piece that pokes out (part of the rear of the mag catch/hook) when the button is pressed. The rounded area of the frame that this area moves against should be shaved a little, to insure free movement of the mag catch. I mean no more than 1mm wide, by maybe .5mm of material.

Got a hard time doing quick reloads with my cz75 and thumb, I need to shift my grip or the mag won't drop it's really slow.

some people dig a channel so they can reach the mag release with their thumb easier. I could reach it with my thumb, but I would most likely have to change my grip. I am right handed, and I have been using a USP for a few years, so I use my trigger finger to press the mag release. This is why I went to the right sided mag release, I find it easier instead of reaching with my thumb. My hands are a size medium, so it is a stretch to hit thumb mag releases. On my AR I use my trigger finger for the mag release (no choice, but I like that set-up anyway), and for shotgun and 10/22 I use my finger again for safeties.
