I'm going to be taking my Black Badge course soon and I currently have a Kimber Stainless that I'm looking at using they're telling me that it needs to have an ambidextrous safety installed on it . Can anyone on this forum let me know where I can get one of these?

Thanks,

Assuming that you're right-handed, you don't need an ambidextrous (ambi) safety. In IPSC competition, there are sometimes weak-hand-only 'table' starting positions, and - for those stages - an ambi safety might prove to be a competitive advantage. Having said that, you don't need an ambi safety, and you certainly don't need one just to take a Black Badge course.

If you do want to buy an ambi safety, and you want to peruse your available options, I suggest looking at the selection at Brownells. Buying it is one thing...fitting it to your pistol, or having a gunsmith fit it to your pistol, is another.

Unless you're left-handed, I suggest that you keep your pistol just as it is until after you've completed your Black Badge and after you've gained more experience.

Weak hand shooting still usually require drawing with strong had, and disengage the safety with drawing hand before switching to weak hand.

They said it was to allow the instructor to see if the safety is engaged or not. I would rather not install an ambi safety, if I don’t have to. Maybe I’ll discuss it with him some more.

Thanks,
