i've been shooting american eagle .223 almost exclusivly from my savage axis since it seems to group better then anything i've put through it. at $8.49 a box I couldn't go wrong.

I was at the LGS today and picked up an ammo can of 1000 rounds of american eagle since WSS was running low on my $8.49/box go to ammo. I was hoping the ammo can would be filled with the same standard american eagle ammo, instead it is filled with 10 boxes of "AR223 100 round value pack"
the code on the box being AE223BL, instead of the AE223 code on the standard boxes.

my question is, is there any differance? on visual check the primers are not the same, and the headstamps are not either. google and searching has been pretty well useless, and the federal site doesnt show these different codes.

i'm hoping it'll spec out the same as i've come to really like the american eagle ammo.

standard american eagle on left, bulk ammo can stuff on right, it does say "mil spec primers" are used on the ammo can/value stuff.

There should not be that much if any difference between the two. If you are trying to get 1/2 inch groups at 300 yards you might be able to tell but other than that go nuts with the ammo can. If you just don't like it send whatever is left to me and I will check it in some of my rifles.

I have some of both the BLK, and other code, both are the same ammo as far as I can tell, I notice different primers in the same 100 rounds value pack as well, so I wouldnt worry about it.

great news guys, thanks a ton.

I almost bought a case of MFS steel cased ammo ($199 for 500 at localish gun store) even though I knew my rifle liked the american eagle, but then saw this case of american eagle ($379 for 1000 at an even closer gun store) and had to buy it, brass cased and better price, and potentialy the same ammo i've come to enjoy.
