American Eagle .308 in Semis

My Norinco is stamped .308 on the chamber but the manual says fire only 7.62x51. I guess if it doesn't say .308Win you could argue that it's saying 7.62?

This thing with the Federal ammo being unsafe in a semi is kind of stupid so long as you're using the same ammo that the barrel says you should be using. If this was a real problem, Federal would be all over this simply because they'd get sued into oblivion for not warning folks.

Now as for Norinco sloppy chambers and quality control being an issue - this is a $400.00 gun, and it's a lot of gun for your money. The receiver alone is worth the money, and for $1000.00 more you have a rifle that's probably better than the Springfield. The safety issue is really a non-issue, if someone died or got hurt by these rifles this forum would be so buried with 'told you so' retards, and the rifle wouldn't sell in Canada. The alternative is to spend $2000.00 on a gun that's not worth $2000.00 and have a rifle you know nothing about because you haven't worked on it. If you just want to spend money on an overpriced gun to talk down to people on the internet, the M1A is the internet elitist choice.

On the M14 forum I did read AE .308 primers are too soft for a rifle developped for military ammo. The M14 floating firing pin hitting the soft primer could cause an out-of-battery fire (slam-fire). Being left-handed, this info makes me nervous...
If you use this ammo, at least verify your bolt timing to ensure the firing pin is retracted by the receiver bridge.
I assume this is why AE makes a load specifically for the M14 (SKU ends with M1A), seems like NATO specs. Sadly this ammo isn't available in Canada.

It blew up my M14 doc M14....

Yes and sadly that was a bad day for both of us. :(
With many ammo choices out there right now, AE is definately not going near my rifles, match headspace or not.
My go to function in all my m14 actions has been federal powwer shok 150gr and zero issues in a few thousand rounds in springers, LRB's and norcs, regardless of headspace.
In 1.640" and longer chambers, I dip into my stash of M80 ball nato ;)

Considering when you go the the Federal web site it lists all the .308 Win as 7.62x51 too.

Federal produces .30-06 Sprng just for M1 Garands....it's 150 gr I think, and on the box it said, Garand

Their .223/5.56 ammo, also has AR on the box....specifically for the AR15 series rifle.

M-14 is good with 147 gr. FMJ ....even UMC 150 gr. MC works like a dream...my all time Fav though is Winchester USA 147 gr. FMJ BT ....Amazing ammo to run through an M-14/M1A rifle.
