Was in Basspro calgary today, seen a pile of american eagle ammo in 17 WSM on the shelf (and CCI .22 ammo), didn't know that they were making it now too, it's 20 grain and rated over 3000 fps, the winchester stuff was selling for $16 and change a box, thats HMR pricing pretty much, I bought 4 boxes and some CCI's but left a bit in there for anyone else looking

Thought I'd mention for folks on the fence about the 17 WSM.

Bass Pro had a lot in there saturday,

$14.97 a box, cheaper then HMR's around here, maybe time to get rid of those sluggish moving HMR's and get something faster!

The only thing stopping me from buying a .17WSM is the poor selection of rifles.

whats wrong with Ruger and Volquartsen? You've had bad luck with the savage? Seems like the cool thing to do is talk crap about the B mag while never owning one these days.

Same here. Been reading reviews on the 17wsm since they were introduced. Have a couple buddies that bought them, one was returned for the heavy barrel. Still waiting for a reasonably priced one with a walnut stock, not a fan of thumbholes. But since then I've gotten a 204 and not sure if I need something between it and the HMR now

I wouldn't have gotten one if I already had a 204 and an HMR, though I heard 204 ammo is harder to find these days too.

actually if I already had a 204 and was looking for a 17, I'd probably look at savages semi auto HMR, or the volquartsen WSM, but I'm content with the B mag for now.

To bad the rifle selection sucks. Maybe once we get some decent rifles around that caliber will pick up.

I believe there is at least five different manufacturers of the 17 WSM now, not sure why people would rather be bitter about a $300 savage B mag`s accuracy not being what you would get from a $800-$1000 rimfire rifle, It appears folks would rather whine about the B mag then actually go and get a 17 WSM, whining about the B mag you don`t own isn`t useful to anyone.

Not everyone wants a $300 pos rifle. Make something of quality for $600 and it would sell.
