So I've been watching through the seasons of American guns and a guy goes in to their shop looking for a home defense gun but instead of buying one he wants to have his grandfathers nice 870 wood stalk vented rib converted to a home defense gun. Rick lists off the things that will need to be done to it (side saddle, different barrel, new stock, ghost rings, flashlight) and says it will cost $1700. I'm no expert but doesn't that all seem a bit foolish, seems like waste of a nice gun, and if you were paying that much to convert a hunting shotgun why not just buy a nice tactical gun.

I was yelling at the screen when I saw that too. It happens a lot on that show though. I just witnessed them "sporterize" a decent Krag Jorgensen last night.

In their defence, they did tell the guy that will devalue his rifle and did try to talk him out of It. (Briefly)

If you check out their website, they have all their gunsmithing prices listed and they are on par. I think they just inflate things a bit for the camera.

I figured that might be what they do, it seems almost every second build they do is just ludicrous in price.

Dammit, thought this was about me....

Apologies Tac. I did not mean to side swipe your thread. As I am in the entertainment business I know the BS these types of shows spew out in the name of reality. Even when the show is about one of my favourite of all things (guns), I can't help but believe everything on this and other shows like this are staged for one reason or another.
