Ammo Age

[gutinater]

Does anyone have a clue as to what age this ammo would be (approx)? Sorry for the lousy pic its wrapped in wrinkly cellophane and im using an iphone camera.

Is there a CIL (Canuck Industries Ltd) reference anywhere on the box?

Also, what are the exact headstamps on the actual cartridges (if you can take them out)? Include periods, capital vs lower case if possible

I didnt want to open the box. The box says:

38 S & W Special Smokeless
Adapted to
Colt or Smith & Wesson
Revolvers of 38 S&W Special Caliber

Manufactured by the
Dominion Cartridge Co. Limited
Montreal, Canada.

The side of the box says:

Fifty
38 S&W Special
c. f.

Smokeless

[green]

c1913-1927

cool got it for $50 at a gun show, I wanted a box to show with my 1st gen Colt SAA's in .38 special

[NorthCoastBigBore]

Yup I agree with 1913-1927

$50.00 is a fair price especially if the box is in good condition.

CIL formed in 1910, by the Dominion Cartridge Co., Hamilton Powder Co. and some others. I think your cartridge box is pre 1910.

Nah, 1920's
