Ammo boxes

I found these on a local buy and sell. One is metal and the other fiberglass. The fiberglass one has RCAF stickers inside and on the bottom. Unfortunately they have been painted over. The paint seems to be a latex so I'm hoping to find a way to remove without damaging the original finish on them.
Anyone know what they were used for?

The metal one is a M548 can. A variety of different things come in them, 20mm ammunition, aircraft decoy flares, bomb suspension lugs and parachute flares to name a few.

I use 1 of the metal one's for storing extra reloading dies, press etc.

Just sand and repaint them olive drab as the military does on a regular basis. The interiors look fine.

The fiberglass one has some painted over stickers on the outside. I think I will try to see if I can remove the paint on them. Maybe it will tell what it was used for.
