Hello. I want to start a collection of ammo. I'm not trying to collected specific era ones.
I want a full collection of all sizes of ammo. (only 1 cartridge per size) EX 22short, 25acp, 32short, 5.45x18 ect....... all the way to large rifle calibre for now.... maybe go larger later.

My question is how do i start? its kinda hard to buy a single cartridge anywhere. I don't want to buy a box of every size imaginable lol.

Any help to get me started on my collection would be greatly appreciated.

You could start off by going to some gun shows.Always a few there, with a box of loose ammo on the table. Some do sell single collector shells as well. Also ask your hunting buddies for one of their cartridges to put in your collection. Some of them no doubt ,use some not common calibres.

Look through the buckets at the range and look on the ground at crown land shooting spots. 90% of my ammo collection is found stuff. My collection is more than the common calibers by the way.

Well, its where fun in collecting begins. You need to go to gun shows and visit ranges as often as you can. You'll be amazed what people throw out into dud bins.
Otherwise post an add on the EE for collections to start with. Some guys were at it for a while and may help you out.
Full Crates of ammo collection, that's the hard (expensive) part in my opinion. onsies and twosies is not that hard
good luck in your hobby

Spread the word to your shooting friends and at the range.

"Help a budding cartridge collector! Give one of each of the cartridges you shoot. Explain what it is and what makes that round different."

When you get things going, use some sort of identification process to bag or tag each round. Keep good notes and research independently. You'll be surprised how fast the collection will grow.

Thank you all. Was hoping was a better way since calgary and area don't have gun shows often. though they just had one so should of thought of it lol. now have to wait till april for next one.

Calgary has the biggest gunshow in Canada, coming up at the Easter weekend usually. The biggest cartridge dealer in Canada is from the Calgary area, and will undoubtedly be there. If you are serious about it, show up with some cash. If you want really obscure stuff you can ask him, or even attend the cartridge show in Edmonton each year.
