Ammo craze?

^^ Has the prices dropped throughout the years or just kept increasing?

$900 for 1000 rounds of 223 leaves a bitter taste in my mouth even though I don't shoot 223.

Not my first rodeo , and for most of you.... shouldn’t be your first. Most of us have lived through a couple of President Obummer terms....

Many of us have lived through the Clinton terms, too. Few of us can remember the Carter years (that’s me...)

Buy it cheap and stack it deep!!

Yup, not my first rodeo!

Peace Be To Journey!

Yep some wisdom in this post here.

Ammo prices actually dropped for a while there a couple of years ago. Obama years 223 was ~ $400/1K, 9mm ~ $300/1K.

Two years of Trump and we had $639 American made AR15's with lifetime warranties from S&W, 1000 Fed Independence 556 was $330 with rebates, 9mm was on sale for 1000/$200, and Fed Primers were $40 with a promotional rebate.

Given the massive inflation the pandemic will cause world wide coupled with the US civil unrest and huge #'s of new gun owners / potential hobby shooters in the US, I can't imagine prices will ever drop to early 2019's again.

Shortages have happened before , and supply and prices eventually righted themselves ; so no need to panic . The market will only endure so many price increases before folks stop shooting , and then the market will adjust to supply and demand , and prices come down . The recreational shooting sports are a want , not a need ; and lots of fairly hard core hunters get by on a couple of boxes of shells every two or three years .

In 2013 when 22lr disappeared it went away at $20-$25 a brick, When it came back it was $50 a brick and eventually settled to about $40 a brick, I was buying 100 rounds boxes of mini-mags for $6-7, now they are $12-14. Hate to see what the prices will "settle" at this time, Mind you it will probably take a few years to find out.

Even at $50/brick, 22 rimfire ammo is a smoking deal. You can't purchase the cast bullets for that price, let alone the powder, then there's the meticulous job of priming, saving brass, sizing etc.

It's not likely to get any better. Same with Trap shot shells, almost impossible to justify the economy of reloading it yourself.

Component prices have been going up steadily, brass, lead, powder and especially shipping rates. Someone has to pay the tab, at a profit or nobody will offer them for sale. Then, things will really get expensive.

Once talks about ammo shortage started I bought another thousand rounds of 556 and 9mm. Even with around 3000 rounds of each caliber, I'm hesitant to go shoot as I don't know the next time I'll find some at decent prices.

Now I just bought a 12 gauge shotgun (first ever for me) and cannot find any bulk ammo for it..

I’m begenning to think that this is just caused by demand.

My buddy in Texas can't buy much in the stores . they only allow 2 boxes at a time . I told him to start buying and he finally listened to me . he has sent me some photos from guns shows and I tell him to keep walking . he bought 2 boxes of 303 FMJ at a gun show yesterday repackaged stuff . I can't figure out what make it is . $40 dollars a box . surplus crap . ouch .

I'm starting to get the shakes as I'm under my buffer zone of 10,000 rounds of .22lr!
Bought most of it a few years ago when the prices were under $25/brick.

Came across this, CCI 22LR 40gr Green Tag LRN 1070 FPS, Box of 100
$34.95+13%=$38.49 from a local LGS and nothing special about this ammo with plenty in stock and at the same LGS as an example Federal Auto Match Target Grade 22LR 325 Rounds Value Pack 40 gr LRN 1200 FPS $32.95+13%=$37.23, guess if that Green Tag is the only ammo that shoots good out of your Firearm, they have you over a barrel.

That FAM "Target" is only 1200 fps rated, not nearly as good as Fed SV at 1080 or so. It's OK if you're shooting a semi and need the extra power, but my 2 semis can't get better than 1" with it, and B22 about the same. I've read the Green Tag is a 'tad' better than the CCI-SV blue box, but for twice the cost !! I'd go with the FAM instead, even tho it's not as accurate. Still good enough for bunnies or squirrels.
My LGS hasn't raised prices, but he's running short of low-cost .22, I got the last of his SK+ and CCI-SV and Fed Champion SV Blue-box. And he says re-supply date is unknown.

To be fair that is the average price of green tag if you can find it, retail from CCI is $25.99 USD, supposed to be very accurate ammo. But that's that's same price as some lapua and eley tenex rimfire ammo,

Doubletapsports has CCI greentag for $21.2/100.

I bought a bunch but they don't work well in my Tikka T1X, after I chamber a round and fire off the shot, it is almost a workout just to lift the bolt handle to extract

I'd like to know what gun DOES shoot this ammo well-I've never owned a 22 that does...and I've owned a few.

I will be glad when this covid stuff is all done.it will probably take a while for the ammo companies to get all caught up.

Going from Paul Harrell's latest video where the subject is CCI Green Tag, it seems there isn't really much reason to buy the stuff. I mean... I've found CCI SV perfectly adequate. Perhaps if I were a benchrest shooter? But those guys tend to go for more exotic stuff than CCI Green Tag, right? So it seems sort of a budget target cartridge, which doesn't really deliver significant advantages over the cheaper SV.

I feel ya. It’s going to hurt if/when I break down and buy more bricks

On the plus side. My wife rolled her eyes whenever I used to sneak in a few bricks years ago, but now. I can tell her about the money I’ve saved... lol

I know the feeling but I take eye rolling as permission lol!
On a lighter note I just noticed I did post 666 so I can say the devil made me do it
