Ammo craze?

I will be glad when this covid stuff is all done.it will probably take a while for the ammo companies to get all caught up.

This shortage doesn't have much to do with Covid 19, it's happening because of a far more dangerous viral disease, left wing politicians in the US and we're only now feeling the backlash.

Supply is still pretty good in most parts of Canada, but that's going to change. In some areas it's already becoming an issue and gun shops are limiting quantities.

I bought 10K each of the two I use most, CCI Mini-Mag HP and Subsonic HP, and have about 3K left of various target loads from lots that have proven accurate. I can ride out a couple years in an ammo drought, or several years if the Zombie Era arrives.

I'm not really panicking...but I'm buying enough to prevent having to eat those words too soon. I "want" to believe what I've heard/read that ammo manufacturers are running at full-tilt (though with a reduced staff for some) and that things will right themselves in time. Whenever there is demand, capitalist society usually responds with supply. As Canadians, we have a sense of where we stand in the pecking order though..and are at the mercy of US supply.

Every time I look at this thread...I come away feeling like I should buy more ammo. Guess I'll only look 2-3 more times. lol

I don't know about you guys, but when ammo is plenty I just buy a brick of .22 or a pound if powder every time I'm in town running errands, or when we go into the city and the wife is shopping I'll just go grab some ammo/powder. See a good deal, buy a case.

Then when the drought comes you're fine.

this came in the mail today :) along with a brick of SK magazine

I am of the belief we will probably see the true impact in the warmer months this spring this summer, our varminting and target shooting season.
By this time the Biden and Harris executive export and import measures will have thier fullest impact on us Canadians.

CraigOry - Good buy there !! My LGS had about a dozen boxes of the CCI-SV and some of the SK Mag cans. I bought all that he had, PLUS he was marking down (old stock ?) his Fed Champion SV 40g (NOT the new HV Champion) and I bought all of that he had left - 5K !! With other ammo I've been buying this past year I'm close to 15K of .22 - s/b good for a couple years or One Invasion !!! Zombies Ho ! I've got similar stock on other cals too, just a few K of them.

22 LR is available if you want to pay. Lots of high priced competition and target stuff around at $80 to $200 a brick. I have moved into 22LR more since primers are getting near the cost of bulk 22 ammo. One thing to do, and this really works, is to get in the habit of loading 5 rounds in the mag instead of 10. Stretches things out with nearly as much fun.

A fellow at our range also taught that loading the shorter group also gives your body time to calm down, re oxygenate and then refocus while you reload. Not sure if I notice lots of difference at the beginning of a shoot, but I think its valid for me near at least at the end of the day.

I load a snap cap first then only 5, so I don't lose count and dry fire. My Marlin 60 has LSHO so I don't bother, but I sometimes have 6-round groups ;-p
