The local emporium got in a stock of pistol ammo in 1000 rd boxes, so my wife decided to add one to her fast disappearing hoard. The kid behind the till ( a student my wife remembers) said his instructions were not to sell ammo by the case lot without authorization from the boss.
We told him that when we called to confirm, the boss said he'd ear mark one for her. He was unable to reach the boss, so my wife said she'd take 10 boxes. The kid says - "Can do!" Then she says, pointing to me, "... and he'll take 10 as well. Leave them all in the same box."
Took a few seconds for the light to go on, but he eventually clicked. Apparently he wasn't any brighter in class. I fear for our country .....
