Ammo for Fabarm 14"?

Go out and buy boxes of random different ammunition and find out what works best for your gun. Each gun will like a certain cartage more than others. Once you find a type that works well then its all personal preference to what kind of shot you want to be useing
 
I always shoot 2 3/4 and 3". I like the 3", lots of fun. I haven't done any accuracy comparisons by brands. When plinking I just buy a bunch of whatever the store has. I rarely shoot buckshot just because I prefer slugs.

For bear protection I use the brenneke 3". They're good, but too pricey for general plinking.
 
Well, after the weekend I'll let you know how the Fabarm Martial Comp liked:

Federal Tactical 2-3/4
Winchester Slugs 2-3/4
Remington Sluggers 2-3/4
Challenger Magnums 2-3/4

I'll have to look for some 3" slugs at the store before I go as well... I'll report when I get back. Previous experience with another SG tells me that the most accurate is likely the Challengers...
 
Had the Fabarm out and shot a whole bunch of slugs. My findings:

Brenneke Rotweil - best accuracy, ~ $4/slug, extremely heavy recoil

Challenger Magnum - 2nd best accuracy, ~ $1.80/slug, moderate recoil

Federal Truball HP - 3rd accurate, ~ $1.30/slug, little recoil

Federal Tactical Low Recoil - 4th accurate, ~ $1 ($0.80 bulk)/slug, no recoil

The Brenneke (depending on penetration, shock, and take down power) would work for hunting, definately not worth target shooting. The Challenger was only slightly less accurate, but far less recoil, and proven penetration power and fun on the range. The Truball is good all around, and oddly enough the Tactical is the least money with the least accuracy by far but can be shot all day long with no pain...

The surprise of the day was Royal Long Range buck shot (12 pellets - .32 size), that kept very tidy groupings (5 inch diameter pattern at 25 yards) out of a 14" barrel... all for $0.95/shell. Little recoil... great round.
 
Don't bother testing with 3" slugs - you'll never need them. The advantage over a 2 3/4" is minimal. Even for bear defence - the increased recoil means longer time between shots, and you might not have much time!

They are not fun out of a lightweight 14" gun!

A matter of opinion I suppose. I think 3" are a lot of fun out of my 14" fabarm. For blackbear protection I would use any 2 3/4, but for the G bear I am quite comfortable with the 3" rottweil. 600 grains of lead is a nice thought. And I don't mind the recoil one bit.

I like these. I was going to grab a case at Target last week but I figured I should try the Truball first.

That's really something, I must give them a try.

Last week I fired a few Winchester trap loads (I can't remember exactly what they were) at 10m with an 18" target....I still don't know how big the pattern is lol.

I gave a bunch of the boys at the range a go with my Fab but I insisted they use the 3" Rem Express lol....no one asks anymore. :D
 
When In bear country, it's either 400 or 600 grain brennekes. when plinking, cheapo bulk pack slugs. brennekes kick like a ####ing mule, but it's not unbearable. I use 2 3/4 mostly because it gives me 5+1 cap instead of 4+1
