Im wanting to take the k31 out deer hunting this November but am having a real pain trying to track down some SP 7.5x55. I can find plenty of surplus but no one seems to stock the SP anyone know of a store that has it in stock?

Great rifles. Other than Prvi Partizan ammo, you will be hard pressed to find anything other than GP11 ammo. Buy prvi partizan brass from TradeEx. I have a set of Redding dies. This way you can roll your own to your desired spec. A standard .308 projectile is used, which is nice and super easy to find. Personally, I load Hornady HPBT match 168gr. using 50grains of Reloader 17.

Note, since the ogive varies on different projectiles, load a dummy round long and back it off to set your OAL specific for your rifle.

Trade-Ex has Norma at about $50 a box. Best way would be to find someone in your area that reloads the Swiss, or reload it for yourself. Almost any good gun shop should be able to order Norma ammo for you, but might take a bit of time and money.

Of course, if you intend to shoot it a lot, $200 worth of reloading equipment, (the price of four boxes of Norma ammo) should give you enough of a start for about 100 rounds of ammo, or five boxes. From then on, it is about $10 a box as your reloading equipment will be paid for.

The only place I have seen that sold the PRVI SP ammo was Canada Ammo, but they are sold out. Try Ellwood Epps (site sponsor up top). You have to give them a call or email as they don't list exactly what ammo they have in stock at any time.

When I got my K31, way back in the early sping, I bought some knowing that everyone else would be lining up when hunting season approached with all the new K31's that just flooded the market. Hopefully when the dealers get their new shipment of ammo in the future, they will stock the SP ammo accordingly!

I think you will go the way of most other people and start reloading. That way you work up a load that works in your rfile, you always have ammo,(saves in gas driving around from store to store) and the great saticfaction that you made the rounds. A super milsurp to own, it's one of my favorites !

I picked up a box of Norma 180gr SP from the Calgary Shooting Centre a few weeks ago. It was around $50 a box. I think TSE still has a few surplus crates of GP11 on the sales floor.

Where are you guys finding the surplus ammo for the K31? Is there any in calgary. I am looking for a crate. Or where to order it from.

Thought K31 reloaders might appreciate this

Thanks for the quick replies kinda what I feared.Either norma cost me my left nut or reload which i can afford yet. (being a student and a gun nut is suicide on the bank account)

It can be suicide at any stage in your career, believe me.Been there and still doing that!!You will thank yourself for getting into reloading too,no doubt about that.

DIOPTER said it!

I started reloading back when 8mm Mauser was $5.25 a box and I was working for $1.27 an hour less union dues, less taxes. Over FIVE hours at work for 1 box of shells.

I spent less than $75 to set up for handloading. RCBS dies were $25 back then; they are only $45 today. I could turn out my own ammo, just as good as factory, for $2 a box.

That was a long time ago. I still have the tools, they still work fine..... and I have had 47 years of inexpensive ammo from them.

Seriously, you can't afford NOT to load your own.

Head for a gun show; lots of second-hand tools there for half-price or less. Get them, set them up, use them, look after them and they will outlast YOU.

For cheap practise ammo, you can load 13 grains of Red Dot with a 180 CAST bullet (wheelweight metal works fine; I just got another 250 pounds yesterday for free). Gives you 8 to 10 rounds for a loonie, depending on if you want gas-checks or not. And you also get just about ZERO barrel wear and 2 MOA or better accuracy. You can afford to shoot every weekend and, in 20 years, that wonderful Swiss barrel still will be perfect.

Pretty good deal in my books.
