I just picked up an older S&W model 41 and was curios what ammo people Are using. I have CCI SV. Has anyone use federal auto match ? What other SV ammo works well?

I had a hard time finding something that my 41 would eat reliably when I first got it about 15 years ago. I finally found Remington green box standard velocity target worked very, very well for me. So I bought 5 bricks and at the rate I shoot it, I'll pass the pistol and a pile of left over ammo on to my kids some day.

They are a standard velocty ammo gun. I wouldnt be running minimags myself. I know theyre are a lot of guys that say they've been running nothing but uncle Jack's mulekick specials for all their life but use your head and don't let someone else make the decision for you. If the gun was designed for standard velocity then I would recommend using standard velocity. And to answer the specific question, I wouldn't use automatch.

That was my feeling I put 200 rounds of CCI standard through it . The store threw In a brick of auto match and it did not function as well. I guess I will just have to stock up on CCI standard velocity.

I have two 41's and they only get fed the recommended CCI Standard Velocity, they work perfect and if not check your gun..

I use CCI SV & SK Std. Plus exclusively in my M41 with great results.

Use CCI SV (or similar sub-sonic velocity ammo) if you don't have (or don't know) the spring tensions in your 41. With whatever ammunition you use, keep your chamber and feed ramp CLEAN. The 41 is incredibly easy to disassemble for cleaning.

They might be a standard velocity ammo pistol. They are not a standard velocity ammo only pistol. Nor was the pistol designed for standard velocity ammo. They are NOT going to be damaged by shooting HV ammo of any brand though. U.S. shooters have hunted with 'em for eons and eons using HV ammo.
Smith 41's are the most ammo particular firearms there are. No two firearms of any kind will shoot the same ammo the same way, but 41's are worse than that.
Some of them will not shoot more than one or two brands well. Some won't cycle or shoot more than one or two brands. You absolutely must try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your pistol will both shoot well and cycle the action. Cost of said ammo means nothing.
Mine would not cycle high priced Eley target ammo. It likes Remington Target and the old IVI Standard velocity. Don't think the IVI is available any more though.
