Ammo in Canada?

Gold Dot is my first choice, and it appears I have more options than you-all might.

Most modern bullets are largely based on the Gold Dot, and many are even designed by the Gold Dot's designer.

Josh

Ok.... Can someone help me find some 50 round boxes of Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots !!

Thanx much guys

Keith

Ill take a few of those too if you can find them.

Win Ranger, Speer Gold Dot, Horanady Critical Def, Federal Hydra Shock are prob the best of the best in JHP, but on a side note, I found Rem UMC 9mm JHP at Sail @ $18 for 50. With all the name brands at around a buck a round these meet my budget much better. I have not shot any as of yet, JHP are for home defence but on the net they review alright.

Is there really a need for +P? What are the actual gains of it? Yes, I am too lazy to use google this early in the day.

in SHTF your not going to be worrying about what type of ammo you have but how much if you can reload and have a good supply of powder and primers your set

i set out for my surplus guns i atleast need a 1000 rounds of ammo for each (surplus ammo by the crate works out nicely)

Realistically all the name brand modern defense rounds are basically equal.

By the ones than function your gun 100% (need to fire at least 100 of them) and stock enough for practice or find an FMJ that is ballisticly similar.

This is on Dr. Gary Roberts' list and thus is a good load:

Stay away from the budget-priced JHPs like Remington UMC for ammunition to which you may have to trust your life; they are generally comparable to older the bullet designs mentioned and do not offer as robust expansion as those on the list, particularly through intermediate barriers.

I have used the Hydra Shok enough to know I don't like them. Granted mine were 147 grain, but they fill up with stuff and don't expand quite frequently. I have had worse luck with those putting deer down on the side of the road than with anything else. I know that 147 fmj flat points even have worked better for me.

Saskcop, have you tried that 147gr load? Could you get a 147gr 9mm going that fast? I don't have a chrony to measure my speed so I'd be interested in the recipe.
