Ammo brand: 9mm MAKAROV from Lellier & Bellot
FMJ 6,1g 95grs.

I asked for 9mm Luger at the store here in town. they didnt have it, but did have the Markov - he told me it was the same size - and was just a 'new box'. this was confirmed from another gent working there. and that it would fire in a Glock 17 9mm
I know there is different sizes for each caliber - but being newer to the sport (and figuring these guys work in a gun store - they would know) I bought a box.

so I am clear - it is different correct?

there are lots of 9mm shells out there old and new. over the years many countries made a different size 9mm bullet and shell for the guns they used. you are lucky that you could not fire the 9mm mak as you would have damaged your gun.

9x19
9mm luger
9mm para
9mm parabellum
9mm nato

These will all work in your glock, anything else, will hopefully jam it up and not go into battery. As firing the incorrect ammunition could be disastrous. Thankfully it appears that all is well, you're just out a few bucks. You could still sell the 9mm Makarov, to someone who has a Makarov to fire it, so all is well, and we've learnt a lesson.

Just when I think I've seen it all on this site....

Wow...

9mm is 9mm?

thank god I've got a 45 Auto, now it can "automatically" adjust to fire 45 colt (but it says "Colt" on the slide).

sounds like a simple case of RTFM - and general lack of knowledge.

Seriously... I can't believe this came up!

so we have learned:

1) 9x19 and 9x18 are not the same

2) the last place on earth you will get any sort of useable information is a gun store .

I'm slightly amazed they would have Mak ammo and not 9x19 :p Probably messed up their order and were looking to liquidate it to suckers ;)

no. got this ammo when I got home - just yesterday picked it up one box.
I have only been in this sport for a little over a year - and obviously have a lot to learn. I had thought they were different but when the man at the store tells you, you can use it - I assume he is correct.
