Never use more than enough.

I cannot help but feel that this topic is clouded by he fact that regulations differ from province to province.

3- Birds
5- Semi Autos
8- Garands
10- Enfields

The Alberta regulations specify no more than 5 rounds in the magazine for semi autos.I can find no mention of any exemption for the garand in the 2006 Alberta hunting regulations. There is also no mention of any limit for any action other than semi autos.

Check your individual provincial HUNTING LAWS(NOT firearms laws). Some provinces, eg QC, allow three rounds in the firearm WHILE hunting, regardless of bolt, semi-auto, pump, whatever...

Uh, I think you are mistaken. Isn't the magic number five in Quebec?

Ted

In BC for instance the Provincial hunting regulations state that you can only have 3 rounds in your centre fire rifle for big game hunting. No problem packing your old Enfield with a 10 round magazine but there can only be 3 cartridges in the magazine, or two in the mag and one in the chamber...

What the hell are you talking about?

Here's the BC hunting regulation synopsis online:
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wild/documents/hunting_regulations.pdf

Please refer us to where centerfire rifles are restricted to three cartridges only for big game hunting.

The biggest problem with provincial hunting regulations is... most people don't bother reading them.

Are you sure you are not confusing FEDERAL migratory bird hunting with PROVINCIAL big game hunting?

This subject is obviously a candidate for my Newbie FAQ thread.
I'll work on it tonight.:p

Well... you're not allowed to use centerfire rifles for migratory game bird hunting in the first place...
