Ammo or Firing pin? help me with an issue

So i just bought a Norinco SKS, used for 100 bucks, Can't complain about the price.

I looked it over before i bought it seemed in pretty good condition for the price.

So i headed straight to the range to try it out.

Shot great for the first 40 shots, went to check the targets and let off another 40 rounds, 20 out of the 40 seemed to have issues firing. The primer has a good indent, but no bang. The second hit on the primer fired the round.

So my question is: is it the surplus ammo that is having some issues? ( ihave a cz 858 and never had that many mis-fires) or could it be that the gun and its firing pin isn't hitting it enough. (I compared the 1 hit on the primer that fired to the 1 hit primer that didn't and couldn't see a difference in depth to the hit on it)
 
I had one of those. I swapped the trigger group and everything was fine after that. Never really found out why it was the trigger group though. It's just sitting in a box now. (Bought a new one elsewhere.)
 
I would take your bolt apart and make sure the pin isn't covered in cosmo and other crap. When you take the bolt out the firing pin should shake freely inside the bolt and rattle. Unless, on the off chance the previous owner installed a spring loaded firing pin which isn't recommended for surplus ammo as it have a much harder primer then commercial ammo. I say your investigation starts by ripping apart that bolt, lots of videos on youtube on how to do it.
 
Ok this is an easy fix

take the bolt body out of the rifle. drift out the pin that holds the firing pin in. clean all the crap out of that tunnel that the firing pin rides in. for extra insurance polish all the firing pin surfaces that ride against the bolt body. you can chuck the pin in a drill to polish it if you don't have a lathe. 800 or 1000 grit should do it.
 
Yeah i ripped it apart, and cleaned it all up, no wonder why it was preforming so badly he never cleaned it out from the original packing grease, nice and sticky, so took me a couple hours and everything is cleaned up and sliding very nice. I'll have to take it out to the range again

w:h:.....I can smell the corrosive primers from here:p
 
why not turn it down and then take it to a chromer

Just find out how much chrome they will add and have the diameter reduced by that much. you might walk in to a business opportunity.
