AMMO Shortage

With the barnes and norma discounts or rebates I think we could be going into a surplus being driven by the higher prices. Load up when federal gets on board

Sorry but I’m seeing things in stock locally I haven’t seen in years (pre supply chain issues), things I’ve been actively looking for. 12g Sabot 3” accutips for example, all of a sudden there’s stock on the shelves.

Your lucky,..our Wallmart STOPPED selling all ammo. They even took out the cabinet and shelving and put Boating stuff in its place.
 
You're not alone . . ranger. We had 2 Wallys and they Both stopped guns and ammo 5-6 years ago and did the 'sporting goods' swap. Both CTs just have 'some ammo' but the guns are gone. Only BP store with 'limited stock' - getting better now - and One convenience store a couple miles outside of town that carries some ammo. Otherwise its a long haul to get any.
 
Walmart is hit or miss. The ones on pei stopped selling ammo, but I’ve been to a few in alberta/sask and it’s still being sold. When Walmart on pei stopped selling, CT expanded their firearms/ammo inventory and you could get milsurp there at decent prices.
 
We're a minor market to the US. Same reason California has more input into car design than we do. They're simply larger.

We get the leftovers and whatnot. However, what are you not able to source? I'd always like more supply to match demand and bring down prices but I cant recall ever coming up dry looking for anything as of late. Maybe during the COVID panic phase but for the last couple of years everything has seemed pretty available. Maybe we just shoot different things but I have had no issues sourcing anything NATO spec. Recently branched into PCCs and Levers so even those pistol rounds all look avail 9mm, 44mag, 357 mag all look available.

When I say available, to me, that is that I can buy a 500 round box of range ammo as bulk with ease. Specialty ammo may be what you're after.
 
Every brand so far mentioned I can find no problem. On some prices are up, but if you consider 5 years inflation were technically back to normal.
 
Shelves are full locally, except for Alliant Powder, Primers are available, just not American made and prices have quadrupled for some components in the last 4 years. I feel lucky that 95% of what my wife and I put down range every year are handloads. It keeps the price down (a bit).
 
Selection is still effected, there are no 410AA loads available here, I am actually seeing no 410 target loads at all, and no Universal powder. The only shotgun primers available are Cheddite.
 
Ammo prices are definitely high on average. Nice to see almost everything available again though. Couple times a week i search around to stores that have deals from time to time. Bought 2k rounds of PPU 45 ACP this morning for $800 delivered to my door from Ontario. Most places want 60-70 cents/ round plus tax plus delivery. Picked up 200 rounds of Winchester XP .270 winchester for $200 delivered to my door last year. Walked into a local shop and bought a brick of Remington/Eley 17hm2 that was new old stock for a decent price. Even found federal 210M and 215 primers last week for 150/brick. I just laugh at some of the prices i see. A little searching and having money ready when those deals present themselves is how i do it. Keep your eyes open ??

What is "overpriced" ?
Have you seen the manufactring companies Financials or the vendors Financials?

How do you determine it's overpriced ?
 
I have not really had any trouble keeping my ammo supply up the only thing is writing the cheque for it, given most has doubled in the past couple years, the cost of shooting is getting high, but hey at 70 years old I'm spending the kids inheritance and I love the smell of burning gun powder :D

LOL, same here.
I buy a couple of boxes when there is a sale on plus I only buy when shipping is free.

Last week Cabelas had some ammo in a caliber I use on sale plus free shipping on orders over $49 instead of $149.

Great savings.

The kids will inherit ammo, I can't possibly shoot all I have.

Hate to pass on a deal though.
