The guys buying a case for their own use is not the problem here. The people clearing out the store and selling it online or at gun shows for 4x the price are the problem.

again not quite the case, as you cannot find ammo at gun shows like you used to, when you do it is a higher priced becuase the seller knows he can't replace it. its the free market at work. communist governments regulate prices, the free market doesn't

The free market hoarders are the real problem.. 50 dollar pmags 500 dollar bcgs just awesome. Karma will get them as for now ill just burn trough some of my reloads

There's no such thing as karma.

Also remember that the price for ammo up here is a reflection of the price the original importer paid when they brought it into the country. When I worked at a retail gunstore, this was typically 6 months to 2 years. This was REALLY apparent during the first BHO scare in 2009, when after he was elected and folks down south got spooked - there was a similar such lag before supply started to get tight and prices crept up and I remember buying my first 1000 round can of PMC Bronze (garbage ammo) for $520. Eventually after the dust settled, the price went down and $0.40/.223 seemed cheap enough to load up (I bought several cans of Federal at that price).

It's funny to trace through internet records and see how in the past decade, US manufactured .223 traded in a $0.10-$0.25/round range, 2009 hit seeing $0.50/round, and after things calmed down a bit, $0.40 seems like solid support for .223.

Following that logic, I think when this price move settles (with .223 going as high as $2/round in the US right now), we may see similar pricing for a while up in Canada, followed by the price settling in at the $0.75-1.50/round range a year or two from now. On a mid-long term, I can see no reason for the price ever going lower than $0.50-0.60/round, given the price of component commodities of ammo: oil, copper, zinc, and lead are 200-500% higher than what they were 5-6 years ago.

This is why I think the $420/1600round Norinco cases are a heck of an investment right now. $0.27/round .223 is insanely cheap - and when the going rate for .223 is in that $0.75-1.50 range, I am 100% certain there will be plenty of buyers willing to pay $0.60-0.70/round.

All the hope and change people thinking .223 ammo will somehow be $0.25/round or cheaper I think have their heads in the clouds, and when .223 is going up in price by $0.05-$0.25/round a month, as I'm sure someday it will, they will be the ones panic buying at $2-3/round.

Sure there is: I was talking to a woman I've known for years and she told me that her longtime philandering boyfriend broke up with her recently. Three weeks later he dropped dead in his tracks. Now that is karma.

That is coincidence.

Only losers believe in karma as an excuse to justify being a loser.

Winner's realize opportunity when they see it and take the risks necessary to capitalize on it.

Last year I was in the local Wal-Mart and they were packed to the gills with Winchester 555 for $19.78. My wife doesn't understand the argument that you may as well buy something in large quantities when it's cheap if you are going to use it and it doesn't go bad. I left with only 6 boxes as a compromise (I would have bought several cases.) Now it's sold out everywhere at $23 a box. Ughhhhhh.

Went into a local gunshop today and saw 500 packs (10x50 round boxes) of Blazer for $19.99. Said I'd take a case of it. "we're sorry but we are limiting purchases to 3 boxes per customer until we know when we can get more." Guess I'll have to go back over several days and talk to different employees.

The shortages are created by profiteers.
people who by 10 -20 cases for no reason except in hopes of ripping off unknowing consumers.

They are also the ones who feed the fear and create panic buying just so their plan of selling at a high price will come true.

Just like the ones here..and on other threads who go to great lengths to justify their fear mongering and plans to rip people off at a moments notice.

Hey Harbl, how's the copper collecting going?

Got a few copper pennies from the dollar store today to add to the few grand I picked up before the banks stopped circulating them. If you have some suggestions on how else to pick up more for face value, I'm all ears.

I'd pick up some more lead wheel weights, but I still haven't melted down the 800 lbs I picked up during the winter:

Gas is also pretty expensive, so i try not to drive around too much unless I.have to. This chart is a bit dated, I think oil is around $93/bbl now.

Seriously, what do you think is going to happen when the 1990 inventory of ammo is depleted?

That sure is different from Cabela's Edmonton. Their ENTIRE rimfire stock hardly occupied a 4' high by 2' wide shelf unit, and the centerfire selection was no better...This whole panic and horde is getting old and frustrating..

You must've been looking in the wrong section... two days ago there were aisles stocked full. Rimfire AND centrefire.

guys, your local store may have stock, that just goes to show there is no local demand in your area. that has nothing to do with the overall market demand. don't expect those shelfs to be restocked when the local supply runs out.

Its really worth repeating, the hoarders are not causing the problem, its new buyers in the market, along with the feds, along with current owners just adding a few rounds to their existing dwindling supply. all it takes for a real ammo shortage is for current shooters to shoot 10% more than they did last year, that's how fragile the ammo supply is. Now that many more folks want to buy ammo the shortage is staggering.

The dealers are getting notice from the suppliers that ammo is going up in price, if and when they can get it, that's it, the price is rising. if you see it and will use it buy it, don't say you weren't warned. buy it.

So someone going and clearing every box of 556 or 9mm of the shelf isn't hurting the shortage... That's just silly to even believe that. I try and avoid buying un needed ammo and am focusing more on components. Even if I'm not saving much money I like to believe I'm helping by not gobbling up any factory ammo I can find... Probably doesnt make a difference but at least I'm trying to be part of the solution not the problem

Its threads like this that urge me to go out and buy more ammo.

That's another contributing factor is these panic threads make everyone run out and clean shelves.. Honestly everywhere had 22 for the longest time after this proposed AWB.... Someone writes there was going to be a shortage, everyone goes out and buys as much 22 as they can afford ... And especially at the price of 22 we had no stock within 3 days... All these guys saying its not going to be restocked and guess what, cnd tire has bulk ammo again as does lebaron. I was at target sports to see what they had and thier shelves are filling up again
