What are you guys doing for ammo storage?

Looking for ideas for storage...more ammo then fits into a gun safe, so it's stored "separately from where the guns are stored in safes.

I could use a well built gun room for all of it but don't have a room to use, so i'm looking for other suggestions, just to better secure the ammo.

Red tool box with a lock isn't gonna cut it, size wise.
 
I store mine in boxes on a shelving unit.

Some boxes are cardboard. Some plastic. I also have several of those green surplus ammo cans. . Several different sizes.
 
I use a old school locker, the one you find in gyms that are about a 30"X30"X40" deep and it came 2x8 so I got 16 mini lockers for ammo, reloading supplies, cleaning supplies and what not.

Bolted to the floor so it wońt tip over and locked, yeah kids will get into everything so...
 
Maybe buy a Stack On Gun Safe/Cabinet at Canadian Tire on sale ( around a 100 bucks ) , and build some plywood shelves to put in it.......an ammo locker for life......

This is what I'm leaning towards to handle the shotgun ammo weight and size.
 
I bought a smallish truck box (smallest of the three in a set) It has a slightly larger footprint than a Rubbermaid Roughneck 68L Tote. Load it up and slap a pad lock on it and it ain't easy to move.

I use ammo cans. I drilled a hole for an eye bolt in the front, and filed a slot so it fit through the tab. That way I can put a lock on there with very little loss of internal space. Probably some loss of water resistance. Sorted by caliber, easy to grab and go but still secure.
 
Google your local office surplus supply, get a nice big 6 or 7 ft tall 2 door cabinet. It might come with lock and key, if not you can get a clasp at your local hardware store.

I've always had the urge to get a spare cabinet and put it horizontal, so the door opens out and down. Maximize the number of possible stacks of ammo. Haven't gotten to that point though.
 
When I graduated to a real safe, my stack on became my ammo locker, but cases and flats I keep under the stairs
 
I just put a hasp and staple with a pad lock on a surplus ammo crate and slide under my workbench. The crates are designed to be stacked. No real need to lock just, if anything, separate. Under the bench is out of sight, out of mind. Use a method that satisfies any storage or security aspects you are worried about but don't over think it. I also keep a locked .30 cal ammo box with a quick supply of ammo and all of my bolts/breech blocks. I can pretty much grab any rifle and the box and have the bolt and some ammo for a quick range trip. Gives me a little more peace of mind and makes wifey happier.

It would be a lot cheaper to buy a horizontal filing cabinet like this off Kijiji. I had one lined up about a month ago for $40 but for a vairety of reasons the deal fell through.

Fishing World in Hamilton had some SKS crates for $40 a few weeks back. BUt if you can find one those metal cabinets or filing cabinets on kijiji would be better(read bigger).
 
Princess auto had some surplus hinged crates for cannon shells for sale $25 for a crate 10" deep x 18" Wide x 48" high. Stand on end and add a couple of shelves holds a good amount. Even has a latch.
