Does anyone have any sugestions on which rounds work best in the Savage 10FCP-k .308?? Just picked one up and want to break it in this weekend hoping someone might have already tried there's out and found a round that works best.

Lots Of guys have reported great success using Federal GMM. FWIW my Savage 10FP LE2B hated GMM, but from what I've heard it was unusually finicky.

Anything 168 gr will always shoot good in a 308, start there, i think you got a 1 in 10 fast twist so 175 MK or 178 gr Amax could be the way to go... JP.

Your rifle without handloading is like a Ferrari with olds winter tires, you dont get the best out of it... JP.

FGMM is unreal in my savage 10PC. same twist rate. ive got a few boxes of Nosler Custom 168gr BTHP that i have yet to test out... 31 a box vs 45 for the federal! surprisingly federal blue box 180gr shoots quite well also. YMMV

what kind of rail did you put on the fcp-k?

need to by a rail for my FCP-K (left handed) where to get one?
thanks!

none of the factory ammo performed as well as my handloads recipe 44.8gr of imr 4320 behind 168gr sierra match king, but federal gmm seem to be hard to find around here and i never tried any. as for the rail a got one from frontier firearm.

I roll my own, almost exclusively 168gr pills, though I've picked up some 155gr Amax (and plan on picking up 175gr SMK's) to go through my 10FLCP-K. (left-handed, HB, fluted, braked.) Since then I've had the bolt timed and the action installed in a McMillan stock by Jerry Teo (CGN sponsor, Mystic Precision). Best I ever did was the timing. Worst I ever did was buy into the McM hype, although I give the A5 does handle a heck of alot better in the prone position.

I shot Federal Tactical 168gr (the ones with nickel cases) for awhile, shot 'ok', but the poor bang-for-the-buck is actually the reason I went the roll-your-own route. I can say I'm glad it's a hobby I took up.

Try out some of that cheap Winchester they sell at Wal-Mart for a little over twenty bucks a box... I think you'll be fairly impressed by the results. That Savage rifle is a really nice gun!

I only shoot handloads in my .308 FLCP-K. The best load ive found is 175gr SMK and 46gr RL 17. 0.003 OTL. This load chronied just over 2700FPS with the 24" barrel(2475ish out of my bros 20" barrel Rem Tactical) so the RL17 puts that extra length to good use no doubt.

Best 100yrd group Ive shot with it is just over 1/8, three shot.
