Ok, so rather than spending days looking through the websites of all the places in Canada that sell ammo and then posting here for opinions on it, I figured I'd make this a much faster process.

Here is what I'm looking for:

My wife and I really enjoy going to the range for the day and plinking our .22LR metal targets and doing sharp shooting with the .22LR's for accuracy at 100 - 200 yards.

I recently purchased a .223 bolt action and set it up for longer shot accuracy (200 - 300 yards).

This is all we do. We DO NOT hunt and have no intension of ever hunting, which I know some may find strange, but I really don't want to get in to that. I have nothing against hunting or the people who hunt, it just isn't for me.

So my question is this, what would you suggest to buy and what would you suggest that I stay away from for ammo for the .22LR's and for the .223. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I don't want to buy crap either. I'm just learning about all of this stuff, and really have no idea about the benefit of different grain weight of bullets either, so please be specific.

Depends if you want bulk ammo. If you're looking for bulk .223 i would suggest Norinco. It's really cheap, yet great ammunition for the price. A few of the site sponsors here carry it. American Eagle .223 is also good too. For .22lr i really like CCI Blazer, you can grab 500 rounds for about $25.00. It's fairly clean, runs well in most .22's ive tried. I would stay away form Winchester .22lr imo.

Cheap & accuracy 'generally' don't go together when it comes to ammo... That being said, I have been surprised before...

What I would suggest, is before you make a bulk purchase of a certain type of ammo, you should try it out in each of your guns to see how they like it.

Keep in mind that one rifle may shoot one type of ammo accurately & another won't... It's really a try & see scenario...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. I run the Norinco 223 ammo in my AR15 & Tavor. It is decent ammo for what it is!

Bulk ammo for .22 I suggest CCI Blazer. For .223 you are going to have to try stuff and find what works best in your gun. Mine likes Hornady ammo the most and the Winchester 45 gr JHP that comes in the 40 packs second.

+1 to staying away from Winchester .22lr. Not a single .22 rifle I've seen likes that dirty stuff. Just compare it to any other brand and you'll notice the difference. Another avenue for .223 tat work well for me was factory reloaded.

I have 3 Savage Mark II's that just love the Winchester 333/555 when I am not putting the good stuff through them. All three will normally get a flyer or two in five shot groups with Federal 525.

Take that for what it's worth but my wife and I do a lot of paper shooting.

Good 22 ammo starts at $5 a box of 50. You might find subsonic rounds are more accurate than high velocity rounds. Like Jay said its a lot of trial and error. In time you will find 22 ammo to be more of a chase than .223 ammo.
