ammo went up AGAIN!?

i just got back form buying ammo for a group shoot tomorrow. 100 rounds of federal field and range was $34 plus tax at crappy tire. it used to be $24.

they had no 7mm, or .22. although the tag on the shelf where the 7mm was showed the box of Remington Core Lokt 150gr was $36.

the brick of american eagle i bought at the local gun shop was $30 plus tax. it used to be $15.

walmart had the winchester value packs on at $29. i'll probably be going there instead of crappy tire from now on. that was basically the only ammo they had.

have i been out of it that long, or have the ammo prices gotten retarded? time to start handloading. i think i spent about as much money on ammo today as it would cost to buy a basic Lee loading setup.

my dad figures ammo price will drop wants the obama paranoia winds down and people end up with a surplus of ammo. his theory is that people will slow down buying ammo and shoot what they have, thus forcing ammo prices to drop. reasonable theory?

Hard to say if the prices will go down. The end of the cold war left alot of surplus stocks around. Unfortunately, the story goes that most NATO countries find it non-pc to sell surplus ammo, so it gets destroyed instead. Basically the only ammo commonly available these days is new commercial, and those prices are fixed. Being that the ammo manufactures can set whatever price they want, the threat of inflation is ever present these days, and because we're in such a niche market, I just can't see prices dropping much.

Vintage cals. surplus ammo ie .303, 7.62, 8mm, etc. will Not Go Down In Price. it is disappearing and difficult to import. Modern sporting cals, hunting SP etc. might go down, by a little, as it's being produced.

Your dad some sort of Economics professor? Ammo isn't coming down and in many places in the USA it is still hard to come by as are primers. Obama is going to be around for another 3 1/2 years.
Get reloading and never look at factory retail ammo ever again. FS

The crappy tire in my area increased all the Winchester silver tips by $10 a few months ago, they are now $34 for 30-06, but you can still get them for $24 at Wally mart

I'm glad I got into reloading this summer.

Prices went up on ALL ammo at CT's here in late October; everything anywhere from $2-6 a box. Wal-mart's around here went way up about 6 months prior to CT's price increases. CT is still cheaper than Wal-Mart here.

Seems like prices are slowly coming back down here (North Dakota). I've been watching 45 acp closely and it is now down to 20.99/box compared to 25/box last year. Most ammo has gone down slightly, though its still not cheap.

And some idiot in the US is propomitng a "BuyCott" campaign for everyoen to buy at elast one box of ammo on a particular day this month whether they have a gun or not. As if there weren't enough shortages and price hikes due to hoarding now.

At this rate we won't have to worry about gun contriol. there won't be any ammo to use
