Hey Guys;

Well, with the cost of ammo having gone through the roof in the last little while... Who here thinks there will be a price correction on ammo considering the economic slow down and the fact that US citizens are stockpiling ammo & firearms with Obama having been elected...

I do have to admit, spending $500 bucks plus taxes and shipping for 1000 rounds of 223 or 308 does make me feel a little:puke:

Cheers
Jay

I think there will be. It is months or years away, though. As well, it will be a generation before the ammo will be as cheap as it once was because supplies of surplus have dwindled. We will be forced to buy new, so it will not be sold at a loss to anybody, unlike surplus.

You just wait until the US market craps out even more and shooting goes from a "once a week" hobby to twice a year.

Quite frankly, I'm almost there and I know allot of people who go to the range allot less than they used to.

I've bought about 1/4 of the ammo I would throughout a normal year. That says something right there. If your a "supply and demand" type person, then in theory, it should come down pretty soon.

Yes there WILL be a price correction and you can bet it will be up.;)
Pete.....

I've been buying a lot more ammo these days. I find I'm going out on Sunday out of boredom and dropping a couple hundred on 12 gauge, 22lr and 9mm

Figure it's only going up, and I'm always going to be using it. Might as well buy buy buy

IMHO, the exit from Iraq and Afghanistan may help with pricing and supply of the .223?
The problem is everybody and his grandmother is switching from Soviet to NATO spec. along with the US currently setting nothing in reserve and LE, you have a perfect storm. It is easing a bit, but we won't be seeing 6 cents a round for a while.

So there should be more deals on Soviet calibers since they are all switching to NATO calibers & since soviet calibers are not coming from the US it should be easier for the importers to bring in ?

That is what has been sold in Canada. We then run into approval issues. S&B is about it for now.

the fact that US citizens are stockpiling ammo & firearms with Obama having been elected...

if things down south go the way everyone fears then you CAN look foreward to cheap ammo... the big companys will just shift market focus to the great white north...

My My here we go again on ammo prices;

Can Amm knows the problems, yes there is other ammo out there, some is cheaper, but Ottawa will NOT approve it so what good is it ????

That is why Marstar sells 90% of the surplus we obtain into the USA. I know we would like to see 8mm Mauser, 9mm Para, .223 Rem, 7.62 Nato, .30-06 come into Canada BUT I am simply tired of fighting "city hall" and getting nowhere....

The US Government is buying up every bit of good quality 7.62x39 ammo it can lay its hand on for shipment to Iraq.
This also drives up the price....

As for the Norinco ammo, as stated previously, the Port of Vancouver will not allow ammo to be discharged. We have to ship from China to Europe and then forward to Canada. Expensive even on a good day. One should remember that Norinco 7.62x39 has increased more than 70% compared to just few years ago....

On the other hand if somebody out there has some funds they don't know what to with, I would be pleased to quote on and deliver ammo we have offshore, NONE of which is approved for Canada.... But with a lot of time, effort and $$ one can get it approved, maybe.

Regards
John

Johnone,

Alittle off topic, but is there something that our hobby members could do to persuade the gov't to be less strict about approving ammo? It seems every other place in the world can shoot the stuff except us. It sounds like NRCAN's criteria seem to be 'unreasonable' - can you point us in some direction to try and lobby for even SOME changes? Thanks.
Again, thanks for supporting our domestic market, as hard as that is with all the hoops you have to jump through.

We have started to book our 2009 ammo purchases and so far not one supplier has any great deals on ammunition no matter how much we buy. The wholesale prices have stabilized somewhat but as new price lists come out for spring and summer delivery, I am certain that every manufacturer will raise the price with the deciding factor being the value of the CDN $ when they produce the list. Shop around and find out who has old inventory at old price. You may be suprised that your little local mom and pop store may have some very competive prices and on products that have been sitting around for a while. Phil.

Whatever...

...Don't try to speculate on ammo price fluctuations/trends.

IF YOU HAVE THE $$$$ - BUY IT NOW - STACK IT HIGH AND SHELVE IT DEEP...

...If you don't have the $$$, GOOD!, more for me! :p

(that is, if I have the $$$ LOL)
