Ammomart 48-S

Higginsons is awesome, got a reply this morning.

"According to Ammomart documents, 48S is similar to H-450 & WC-785, but there was no load data for this powder."

I burned up several pounds of that 48S many years ago. It is very close to H450 in burning rate.

If you can find data for H450, I would start a couple of grains lower than the H450 listings and work up carefully.

I used it for 165 grain bullets in my 308 Norma Magnum, and IIRC, the charge was 75.0 grains for c. 3250 fps.

Also used it in 30-06 with 180 grain bullets, 60.0 grains produced 2700+.

Regards, Dave.

This is interesting. I am currently down to my last two pounds of WC852 (Slow Lot), which I purchased from Ammomart/Higginson over a decade ago. It is also a dead ringer for H450/Win 785. It gives me the best performance in my old military Mauser carbine in 7x57 with 175-grain bullets. In fact, it is the only powder that I will use with that rifle/bullet combo (and I was using it at the range less than a week ago). I can get 2,450+ fps with Hornady 175s out of an 18.5-inch barrel.

I think you have a real treasure.
