Ammunition for moose hunting

Darkstalker - I'm heading to Matane on the 15th.

I just loaded up a bunch for moose - 56grs of H4831SC and some 180gr Hornady Interbonds in my Sako AIII. I will be bringing an FN mauser as backup, and all I have for it are some 150gr Winchester CXP-2's, and I'm not worried.

How about 180 grain Winchester Super X rounds in .303? Still good for moose?

Not really, North American big game has become immune to the venerable .303Brit. You need a magnum with the best ultra bonded or lead free bullet to even consider stepping out of house in pursuit of of our mighty Canadian cloven hoofs:rolleyes: And optics..I won't even go there

My load when up in Cold Lake Ab was a Rem CL 165gr bullet fired outta my 30-06. This was my moose, bear & deer load. I used the same load in Hardisty Ab to drop a cow Elk. For my .303 I used a 180gr RN Rem CL.

You don't need a heavy bullet just a good one and someone behind it that can shoot.I've wacked truckloads of moose over the decades with nothing more than 130gr .270 Hornady handloaded interlocks at 3000fps.Lots with 6.5x55/160gr Hornady handloads at 2400fps............................Works for me .............Harold ** A lot of moose hunters out there load up like they're going to Africa for cape Buffalo?

you don't say what kind of rifle, or did i miss it- if it;s one of the nor m14s that are so popular right now, the 180's are out of the question- anything else should be good to go- i hunt from horseback and the 180 is my go to load that's always in my savage 99 saddle gun`
