Ok Im looking for a really accurate .22LR round! I'm currently using Winchester Xperts but they don't have the accuracy I want for hunting. Mainly they aren't hitting twice in the same place twice (no two bullets through the same hole) with the Savage Mark II CLAMPED DOWN!

So I'm looking for a new brand of ammo! What do you suggest?

Every gun reacts differently. What works well in one may not work well in another.

Buy a 50 round pack of several different manufacturers and have fun testing to see what your rifle likes the best.:D

Im just looking for a general couple brands to start with. I can only go to town to buy ammo once a month and I cant spend $100's tomorrow to buy one of every brand to try out :D

CCI minimags, subsonic, & blazers are the one I'd try first, but I'm a CCI fan boy.

x2 CCI is definitely worth the extra cash, but as others stated each gun likes different types of ammo. I am still in the process of looking for bulk ammo that doesn't foul my gun ridiculously.

I did this but 500 round packs, I have around 6000 round lol.Every time I went to a store and they had a brand I did not have I would pick up a brick. I've tried them all, most I find shoot the same. The only one that made a slight diffrence was the Blazers. And like another post I belive every gun has its own favorite. If you want, I ll sell you 10-25 rounds of each kind I have.
PM me if you want

Buy a box or 2 of 50 rounds each and run them through. Trust me, you'll see the difference.

As a starting point CCI Minimags worked VERY well in my Savage MKII. 5 rounds easily under an inch at 50 yards. The Federal 525 pack looked like a shotgun out of my MKII and 10/22 (>2-3 inches at 50 yards).

Next range trip I'm going to see if I can tune my 10/22 a little to see what it prefers.

I dont get enough trigger time with most cci loads due to cost, since im mainly a plinker. But stingers are really fun, and minimags are pretty accurate. but i do get stickershock. I have always had great results with winchester dynapoint white box. really tight crimps. not super fast and may not cycle semi-auto, i dont know. But my groups are always consistent. and you get 500 rounds for $23 at walmart.

drache, what is that with exclamation marks... Trying every brand you can lay yo hands on is the very first thing one should do with the rifle. On the other hand- if rifle is picky on ammo there must be something wrong with the rifle. Accuracy does change brand-to-brand but it should be within good to excellent range at all times. Check your scope, sights, stock, crown etc - the usual accurising work.

I've always liked the Win Power points, a little more expensive but perform well in almost all of my 22's. Reminton Game loads if you can find the group nicely and kill well in my guns. FS

Win Dynapoints have always been good to me.

Once you find a round that works, you may want to save-up and order a few cases at a time (10000-25000) rounds. Thats how we get Fiocchi SV locally (great stuff). We do group buys and so cut-down on shipping and dangerous goods handling charges. Works out to $250 a case.
Cheers,
Grant

Yeah I've noticed that 100 rounds of Winchester Xperts HV's just make my barrel BLACK!

I'll pick up some mini boxes of different types and see how it goes.

Try as many types as possible

As many have suggested, try as many brands and types as you can find/afford.

Many years ago I purchased all the different brands and types of 22lr ammunition I could find just to see which performed best in a CIL Anschutz target rifle I had.

The results were quite varied. The $1.00 per box CCI MiniMag ammunition was the best. All in one hole at 25 yards (gun clamped down). Expensive Eley match ammunition gave 2.5" or larger groups. Even the CCI Green Tag match ammunition was less accurate than the MiniMag.

Every rifle will have an ammunition diet it prefers. Hopefully your rifle will not bee too picky.

Good luck with the search!
