AMT .22 mag pistol problems

I purchased an AMT Automag in .22 magnum a few months back and am having problems with it not extracting. It either does not extract or it does but jams when doing so. I did some research and learned a bit about the design of the chamber and also that some brands of ammo were better than others.

Does anyone tuning in have any advice to offer or even what would be the best ammo to try? The extractor looks good with no obvious wear, etc.

Sell it? I always wanted to buy one as well, but after reading how bad they are for jams it put me off.
 
Have you tried CCI MaxiMag 40gr ammo? When the AMT first came out there were quite a few problems, so CCI changed the powder specifically to work in the AMT. Barring that, try a good scrubbing of the chamber.
 
That was one of the Ammo brands suggested in some research I did. It's worth a shot. Thanks.

But what with spring work, gopher
hunting, truck repairs, I may hve to keep
it for a couple of years to get it working.


That been said , clean the chamber, then do it
again, and try different ammo.
Use to have one, wish I had it back, but it
is a pain in the ass and expensive to shoot.

Hi Dorm,

I have one (AMT Automag II) too...so far I'm also still looking for the best ammo to use with this pistol as well. I also have had extraction and stovepipe failures with mine.

Yeah, the whole AMT pistol line was kinda spotty. My local shop reported a 50% failure rate on new ones. I would never buy an AMT without a chance to test fire it first.
 
Have the same gun. When I first got it had the same problem. Chamber needs to be scrubbed and the "dimples" cleaned out really well. Change to CCI MaxiMag and no more problems. By the way try shooting the gun at dusk. Quite the flame show!!
