AMT Hardballer Long Slide .45 ACP

I have a AMT .45 with 5" slide, which IMO is a really nice 1911.

The AMT's earned a bad reputation for the slide rails "galling", but most agree it was due to the SS not being lubricated properly. Modern lubes/greases can prevent this.
Visually inpect the faying rail areas for uneven wear, marks etc., plus cycle the slide to check how it feels.
I use Froglube grease on my rails and have not had an issue.

AMT's also were noted to be good/poor guns as far as accuracy goes. So, if you can, shoot the gun to see how it groups.

The fellow I bought my 5" AMT from had a 10mm AMT long slide for sale at the same time. If I had the money at the time, I would have bought both!!

Depending on what he is asking for it, if it's a good price, I would considering buying it.

PM me if you have any questions.

Hope this helps.

I've owned an AMT Longslide since the late 80's and love the way it shoots. It's almost like it's compensated with the extra 2 inches of barrel. My best load (low power target load with LSWC mind you) would do a 3/4" group at 25m bench rested. With standard loads you're looking at 1 1/2 inches plus. Well beyond what my other 45's could do. Never had an issue feeding ammo as some AMT owner have claimed. So far I've used 200gr LSWC, 230 gr RN and 200 gr truncated round nose .

early one's had galling issues due to a poor choice of alloys. Not that they wheren't strong enough, just too similar and they galled very easily if not kept well greased and clean. Many had reliability issues. Many where good. I'd want to shoot one before i'd put money down on it, but longslides don't grow on trees, and any problems are correctable, and the point of owning a 1911 is working on it to keep it running i think.....lol
