An Accurate Semi .22lr with iron sights. CZ or what?

Otherwise I'd suggest that you build up from scratch. Since the more insane/serious builds end up with only one or two pieces of Ruger origin I'd suggest you simply buy all after market stuff and build up what you want. If you're also wanting plain sights I'd go with a receiver that allows you to fit a long heavy section one piece picatinny rail that extends out over the barrel. Then you can alternately fit a scope equipped with a detachable base or AR style rail mount flip up sights yet maintain a fully free floated barrel.

Does any of this sound enticing?

It does. A long picatinny and pop ups might just fit the bill. I'm still leaning towards the 512 as there's one in a local shop I can go and hold, but I keep looking at the Dlasks, MR, etc and I start to drool a little.

There is a two word solution to your quest:

Accurate semi .22.....best I ever had was an older Mossberg 151m-b. Shot on top of shot with CCI SV. May not be "new in box" but you should be able to find a good original for 300 +/-

ok, will post this one more time. Find a thompson center R55, they used a shillen match grade barrel. I at one point had seven (bought out a sporting goods store stock), they are match accurate, and everyone of them outshot my CZ's, they are that accurate. don't believe me? then you haven't shot one. they came with good fibre optic sights

My CZ 452 is easily my most accurate .22 bolt gun (out of a half dozen different ones), and I would expect the 512 to be in the same tradition, but I don't own one so I can't speak to it one way or the other.

I do own a 10/22 carbine, and... Well, accuracy wise, it sucks. Really, really, sucks.

I picked up a Marlin Papoose on a whim earlier this year, and guess what? Even it was more accurate than my 10/22.

Since I was having good luck with it, I decided to pick up a 795 to go alone with it. And it edged the accuracy up even a bit more.

A 512 would probably beat it, but a 512 will run over $500. For that money, you can get a Papoose, a 795, a Bsuhnell 3-9x scope and some rings. And a few boxes of shells to try everything out.

And I still want a 512, so I should probably stop talking about this now...

:agree: Excellent advice.

+1 for a Browning Buckmark rifle. Pretty accurate with both barrels, uses pistol mags, and looks fantastic.
Only $600-700 if you find one.

put a want to buy ad for a thompson center r55 they are match accurate. discontinued a few years ago but can still be found.

yup - X2 on that one
I have a marlin 795 too, and I really like it, but the T/C is for serious shootin like metallic silhouette and even some benchrest play, and the 795 is for the best campin plinker ever...........................

good shootin all!
