I'm thinking of picking up a cheaper scope for my new Savage .17HMR -

I want something with higher magnification, that won't break me financially.

I'm thinking either a BSA or NcStar scope off of eBay -

Anyone tried these in the higher magnifications?

I'm thinking 6X24 or 8X32 -

Please let me know.

I just finished shooting 400 rnds out of my 10/22 using the tasco 6-24x42AO mildot scope and I am VERY happy with it, the mildots make long shots easy by giving a reference point......

$99 at wholesale and...... if your going to be shooting gophers and such out to 100 yds with a .22 or .17 I don't think I would go below 16x on the upper end.

the only problem with past 16x is you lose your eye relief quickly and have to creep up the stock a little.

Picked up the Tasco today from Wholesale Sports in Saskatoon. Thanks again for the tip Wes, this scope is a great buy for the money. Can't wait to get 'er mounted up on my .17, and make some gophers do cartwheels!

now you need one of these to practice with at 100 yds.... tons of fun

I wouldn't buy an el cheapo scope. Do it once and do it right. Once you start checking out the higher quality scopes there is no going back. All of a sudden the couple hundred dollars you spent on cheap scopes isn't much of a bargain. I like to look for the highest quality for the dollar. Right now I think it's Burris. Under $200 on EBAY. Look for a Canadian seller. 3-9X 40mm The optics are as nice as a leupold.

To be honest...I find my Tasco 6-24 to be a great scope for $99....and its not just for rimfire - there's a guy shooting .308 out at our range right now with this same scope.

just bought a .17HMR and put a Bushnell BANNER on it. 3.5-10X. Nice little scope....and worked great to find and kill gophers yesterday!
