An "honest and objective" 597 post

Thanks for the honest remarks and hints, guys.
I had a 597 in my hands this morning, and decided I'll be buying one for myself by the end of Feb.
So much negative about this gun on the web, but from what I read, most issues were with the first 2 generations of magazine.
The rail screws will be the first thing I check when I get mine.
The girl at the gun store stated that, with the exception of aftermarket "gadgets", the Remington was every bit as good as the 10/22, for quite a few $$$ less. Now I can't wait to get one! :runaway:
Thanks again! :D
Put my order in today, plain jane synthetic/blue.
Should have it in a couple of weeks or so.
Thanks again for the "honest" review and advice.

Good stuff Ontgunner, look forward to hearing your review of your 597 when it arrives. I always found waiting for new firearms or accessories can make a couple of weeks seem like a couple of years!!!, workdays go by slowwwwly and lonely nights are spent waiting lol. :p I know the feeling I've been waiting for eagles new 30 rd. mag for a while now!!!

Cheers,
Mad Mikey.

Nope. That was a sale they had last summer (stupid me for not buying one then).
Current price is $189.
LeBaron's has it for $186.63, SIR for $183.99, Wholesale at $179.95...
Just to make ya feel better, all these prices just went up. :(
I'm paying $195 locally.
If you can get it for $175 snap it up! (jealousy)

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but if there's a mod present, why not start a "tip and tricks" thread for the 597's like the 10/22's have. And make it a sticky? By the way I have the HB laminate stock in 22LR, and I find it a great rifle for the price.

Good thread. I was at one time thinking of getting a 597 but read alot of complaints and the thought faded away. Now that this thread popped up, I think I'll go get one. Thanks guys.

Same here, and for the price you can't go wrong.

Just give it time, the more the word spreads more people will buy these and more accessories will become available. Dare I say, it may just be as popular as the 10/22 one day.

How much load would polishing the hammer remove from an unmodified version ???

I own a 597 HB LS in 17 Hornady...Fit and finish is excellent...The accuracy leaves much to be desired..1.5-2" at 100 meters when my brothers savage 1/3, the price shot circles around my 597:mad:

Is your brothers Savage a bolt action jennis? In most cases, you will find a bolt action will outshoot a semi for accuracy. Also if your gun is new, I find it takes a little while for the barrel to break in and settle down. My first 597 HB LS in 22LR was terrible for accuracy. Upon close examination of the bore, I found what appeared to be throat erosion at the chamber end of the barrel. The gun was brand new! I went to my local Remington dealer, and he sent the rifle away for warrenty. Gravel Industries(Remington Canada), replaced the rifle with a brand new one. Took them 6 months though! I was not impressed. Took a nasty e-mail from me to Remington in the States to finally get the ball rolling, two weeks later I had a brand new gun. Amazing what an e-mail to a parent company can accomplish! Remington has been making firearms since 1816, and there not going to start pissing of custumers now, if you have a problem with a firearm call or e-mail them directly.

Mine eats everything EXCEPT Dynapoints... it hates them. They FTE every time. Mine loves the Remington Subsonics...
