A Valmet 78 receiver is similar to one from a AKM right? Stateside there is alot of kits and acessories availiable. In .308 and other calibers, it could be very complicated but for 7.62x39mm alot of stuff is availiable! does anyone know what parts do the valmet hunter and AK-47 share? And BTW, is the receiver stamped or milled?

ONLY THE RECEIVER MATTERS and the 2 that are legal to own are made by 'Valmet of Finland'. Other manufacturers are not able to produce Valmet, only Valmet can make Valmet parts and guns.

Valmet is owned by the Government of Finland and only sells to military/govt contracts now.

To get a stamped receiver to be legal in Canada from the USA you would have to have an american company purchase production and licencing rights from Valmet. I do not think that the Finnish Govt would sell their state arms licencing. It would cost a ton. Plus then, what gun would they use?

I like the idea, BUT most of the Valmet receivers are not compatable with other AK machines. Valmet and Galil are somewhat interchangable but only those two. All other AKs are ... just AKs.

Honestly if you want an AK you will have to part with $$$$$ and suffer through the experience. In the end you will have the finest AK ever made. FYI Galils were based on the Valmet design, even after production began on Galil they still made changes to copy some of the Valmet modifications over the years. In the end the Galil is almost a Valmet but nothing seems to surpass the Valmet (Galils are #2 in my books but so close to #1 that it is hard to measure). (I wish they were both allowed)!!!!!!
