An interesting case separation........

Why not?

Found at the range today. Two Remington 8X57 Mauser cases.

One completely separated, the other almost coming apart.

Interesting because it is so far up the case body. Usually they are closer to the base.

Someone has been full-length sizing brass for a rifle that should be getting neck sized brass.

I had more than a few come apart like that. Most recently it was a batch of S&B 303 brass.I had to junk it after 3 firings.
Entire lot of 50 was fireformed with rubber ring and about 1/3 of it cracked just like that even with neck sizing.Rest showed strong signs of ring forming.
Same rifle got 50 cases of IVI-15 firings later all 50 are still here.Very good brass.

I found couple of MFS steel cases from 7.62x54R cracked like that.Someone has MN with really bad headpace.

8x87... must be a monster to shoot lol.
That's a very thin walled case, I usually find Remington to be fairly thick and durable brass.

Just looking at the pictures it looks like the shoulder is kind of round and and blended into the neck. My 8x57 fire formed cases show a sharp distinct shoulder and transitionion to the neck. Maybe this one was reamed or polished to clean up a rough or rusty chamber??
Certainly looks like too much headspace.
