Actually, what you see in the pics is not boreal forest. Boreal forest is further north of where I was hunting, and much much thicker.
I hunted there years ago, for both moose, and bear.
Think trees as thick as the hair on a dogs back in places.

I got your back JYC. Our bush is pretty much a wall of tag alders, pine/spruce, blow downs, maple, and birch. You can walk in it...if you have a chain saw running wide open in front of you!

I have a hard time talking about tag alder swamps without swearing.
I was 50 feet from an adult moose I could not see this year, when it broke and ran.
I never did see it, tracked it for a short distance, and lost it in a ten acre blow down. How the hell that moose crossed it, I have no idea, it took me nearly an hour.
I got soaked several times trying to force my way across creeks choked with the damned things.

Tag Alder patches are an absolute SOB to work with. As for BS terrain to navigate, we hunt moose in 21A, clear cuts/burns with holes 3-5 feet deep randomly stashed under the tall grass, blowdowns mixed in and....*shudder* rasberry bushes as far as the eye can see...

Thankfully, the raspberry is limited in our moose hunt area. The deer hunt area is another matter. Blackberry canes higher than my head with thorns close to 3/4 of an inch. Years ago they used to sell 'dogger pants' have not seen them in years. They were similar in construction to 'chainsaw pants'.
The deer have tunnels through those canes, and seem to pass unscathed.
again, thankfully, the patches are limited to clear cuts, and blow downs.
