AN SKS for $75.

BigMoe,

It too recieved an amazing speciman of an SKS.
No refurbish marks at all.

Trust me, if I can strip and clean this thing, you will have no problems.

The firing pin block WILL be packed with Cosmoline and the FP will not rattle likes it is supposed to do. Take it apart to full clean.

One tip I found on the web that worked great for cleaning the barrel was to get a 12" section of 4" dia PVC, a 4" x 3" PVC coupler, a 17" section of 3" dia PVC and a 3" PVC cap. Glue (PVC solvent) them all together and tada.........you have a custom built container to hold barrel while soaking in Mineral Spirits (it works great).

A 4" PVC cap makes a nice cover to prevent spillage.

This pipe resouiver (sp) holds just under 3.78L.

Hope this helps.

Trigger Job

YES! You must clean it very well. You will most likely need to unpin the bolt to clean the firing pin area or it WILL SLAM FIRE. be sure to test the firing pin before you load any ammo. the other "problem spot" seems to be the gas tube and piston. You'll have to sweat it all out of the wood or else you'll have some very greasy hands when you take it to the range on a nice day. Some people tie it up on a hot summer day, some put it in a metal bin and shine a hot light on it, others bake it in the oven. I used a heat gun.

Don't be intimidated, it takes a bit of time, but most people find it fun. I had an enjoyable evening and look forward to cleaning my own SKS in the future.

If you plan on firing non-surplus ammo you should really consider getting Murray's firing pin for added safety. $39 and he'll ship to Canada (or Brownells has them). The second popular "upgrade" is sending the trigger to a gunsmith. There is a fellow in Texas that goes by the handle "Kivaari" that made a good name for himself doing SKS trigger jobs. I haven't heard of any Canadians having trouble with customs sending their triggers down.

What is it he does with the trigger?

Just took my $75 SKS out again. Put 120 rounds through it and it was still flawless. Even managed to get 3" groups at 100yards with the surplus ammo from your 1400 round box. More than happy with it still. Thanks!

With my match/target SKS trigger work, you get it all--- safety, clear 2 stage operation, lowered pull, much less creep, smoothness, repeatability, consistency and give up nothing, well, a few bucks. Each trigger group is different and each one must be done individually; there are no "jigs" or systems that will allow a sear/hammer to be cut for one that will work optimally for another. These are all done by hand for maximized results.

The price of $59.95 + $5 shipping includes carefully cutting and changing YOUR sear/hammer geometry for a minimal, acceptable positive engagement. A Wolff sear and hammer spring are installed upon re-assembly. I tune the trigger spring myself. The safety function is effected with a minimal first stage. Anything that precludes smoothness is corrected by lapping, stoning, or filing as needed. Crooked disconnectors are straightened if needed.

Everyone seems to swear by it.

Just want to chime in and mention that I received very fast response when I tried to find out about shipping charges. Will definitely be picking one of these up!

Hi guys,

Bigmoe here, as bodacioussureshot had stated above, it was easy to field strip and clean. My FN C1 was harder to clean then this. I added some mods before taking it to the range today. Over the last month and a half, I have added a return spring to the firing pin and installed a ATI Strikeforce stock. All this was easily accheived, the only trouble encountered was when I removed the gas tube to remove the wood stock and install the compusite stock. I was finding it hard to push the lever back in place that holds the gas tube in place (Succeeded after gently tapping on top and pushing on lever at the same time. The problem I am having, is after I have fired 4 or five rounds, the lever pops up and I have to use the above procedure to re seat the lever. Is anyone else encountering this and if so what can be done to remedy this. I am for the short term going to lockwire the lever in place using .25 inconnel lock wire and attach it to the accessory lugs included in the stock kit.

If anyone has any information or better idea's Please respond to my thread.

I am SOOO tempted to do this.... I need a crate of 7.62X39, and my buddy is just about to get his PAL and will be needing a new first gun....what better way to celebrate friendship, than to sell your friend a rifle to cover the costs of your ammo purchase! :p

John, how long do you plan on keeping this going? I mean, am I super pressed for time to buy, or can I mull it over for a day or two first?

I would think you still have time, I bought my special in July and at that time I was worried about the deal being pulled. they still have plenty it seems, rifles are great but remember the ammo is the corrosive variety.

brently, can you go over your cleaning process with me, I just fired 50 rounds through mine and I gave it what I think is a indepth cleaning, but I want to be sure. I sprayed plenty of windex, then I gave it a water rinse. I then used compress air cans to blow out any water left, then I sprayed wd-40 in all the gas path area's. I then used patches to wipe it all down well. then finally, I gave it a thorough dousing in gun oil inside and on the outer surfaces.

Does this sound good enough.

Finally got my SKS from Marstar to the range today and put about 200 rounds through it. Operates wonderfully, and I was getting 4 inch groupings at 60m over open sights. Also, the ammo is great, not a single dud, misfire, jam, nothing.

I will say this; don't skimp on cleaning this rifle when it gets to your door, it is literally oozing cosmoline from every conceviable part. I cleaned mine by doing a complete strip down (take the bolt fully apart!), then used a disposable roasting pan with warm water and Simple Green and a tooth brush to remove all visible cosmoline. I then used simple green and boiling water in a large pot to boil all metal parts, including barrel, for about 10 mintues. After removing the parts from the boiling water (they dry alone via the heat of the steel) I lightly oiled everything up save for the gas tube and piston. Next I used a rag and heat gun to leech out the cosmoline from the stock (requires time and patience), and finished by running the stock through the dishwasher on a quick cycle, skipping the dry cycle. The stock and parts were fully cleaned, and look brand new.

I was however not visually pleased with the shellac finish, so I decided to refinish my stock and gas tube using Minwax Polyshades Bombay Mahogany, and a finishing coat of a polyurethane and red Rit dye to mimic that classic AK "look". Turned out amazing, and overall, a really fun process.

I have two complaints, albeit minor:

-while the 5 round pinned mag is nicely done, I can not load 5 rounds manually, it is a little snug. I can however load 5 via stripper clip. Go figure.

-my extractor claw is marked with a 4 digit code that does not corispond to any of the markings or serial number. I'm a little miffed, as this was sold as "all matching parts", but not a huge issue.

Concluding, this offer from Marstar is a great deal, I'm very happy with this firearm. I will be ordering two more of these packages just for the ammo, might as well get a rifle basically thrown in :)

A buddy and I went halfers on the case of ammo and sks deal, along with ordering a second SKS. Awesome deal. Thanks. My friend has a fair collection of arms already, but this is my first rifle. In the 3 weeks since we've had the guns, we've blown through half the case of ammo already. Lots of fun had up the mountain already. After one of our trips up the mountain, we recovered 4 fired bullets from behind a stump we had been using to mount targets. Three of them were intact, with only a little striation from the rifling, but the 4th one had expanded from the rear of the bullet. It would appear as though these are not steel cored, as advertised, but rather steel jacketed lead cored. Perhaps there is a steel core inside of the lead, and we failed to recover it along with the rest of the bullet, but it doesn't look that way. I might try cutting apart one of the intact recovered bullets to see a cross section. I am not complaining at all though. Steel core, steel jacket, whatever. It goes bang in a big way, and puts a hole through targets. That makes me happy. I would also like to mention that I am thoroughly impressed with the hard case that came along with the second rifle. It actually fits both rifles in it. Very nice bonus. Thanks again Marstar!

My PAL is still under process, and this deal is soo sweet.. Any chance or way Marstar holding one for me till my Pal arrive?

HOLD ORDER, yes we do this all the time one soimply places his/her order and advises us to hold until PAL arrives.... No problem at all
