An unidentified Animal is coming into the barn at night..

So, for the passed few weeks, we've been getting a visitor into the barn, it seems to enjoy the cat-food..

It urinates, and defecates in the same spot. It sort of looks like raccoon poop..

I had a game camera set up, but it mostly takes pictures of the barn cats..

I would set a trap, but the barn cats are.. Dumb.. And always end up stuck in the cage for the night.

Any ideas what it could be? And no, we can't shut the barn door, the horses need airflow.

If it looks like raccoon poop, it's probably a raccoon...

maybe a skunk?

Either way, take some coffee, have an afternoon nap, put a flashlight on your favourite rifle and settle in for a night of watching.

Re-adjust your trail cam or use another one. In this age of $69 trail cameras (very functional) who uses poop identification and tracking...?

It's a possibility, I hope not, as that won't fare too well for the horses..

if you set a box trap, make sure you have thought out disposal before you set it and attach 20 ft of rope so you can drag it, you do not want to carry it by the handle with a skunk in it.

rig up a deep rubbermaid container or barrel with a ramp you can pull the trap up and drown it.

does not matter where you shoot a skunk or with what, they will still spray. drowning is "clean".

My bet is on Opossum, But I wouldn't count a skunk out either. Its that time of year again, I see tons of them out every morning before dawn.

If the trap is small enough that they can't lift their tail - no problem. Stinky doesn't like to soil himself.

The trap is a good idea, but like I said, the cats we have are fairly.. Dumb.. I've tried setting them, and each morning one of those pylons gets themselves trapped.
