First handgun? I certainly hope you have thousands of rounds with easier to shoot handguns under your belt, because if you don't, I don't think the M29 was the wisest choice. Wait 'till you fire up some of those 180 grainers and you'll see what I mean. ;)

i've shot commando size 1911 in the past and i thought the recoil was kinda week.the first time i've ever shot a shotgun, i loaded it with 8 rounds of slugs and rapid fired it down range. so i thought i can take recoils pretty well. but then this IS a powerful gun, so we'll see. shouldnt be a problem.

next gun im gonna buy will be a spring field GI. little cheaper to shoot than the magnum and easier on the hard. i read some where that shooting a revolver is a good practice for aiming a pistol. it kicks harder and the trigger pull is long and heavy, so i could learn to aim and shoot instead of shooting faster than i could aim with a semi auto.

Nice gun! And I really like the lighting in your pics too - very ###y! :)

+1 on saving the brass and reloading if you can. Full power loads can be a little tiring and reloading will give you all kinds of options as well as letting you shoot a lot more for the same $$.

.44 Magnum

More importantly you picked a quality revolver for your first handgun. Congratulations!

A .44 Magnum is not necessarily a bad or unusual choice for a first handgun. Yes, factory fodder is on the stiff side. But quickly one can get set up to load for it and thereby have a very wide range of shooting options. When I had wheelguns in .44 many hundreds of light lead target loads went down the pipes. The .44 Mag is a very versatile & accurate cartridge.

you can load the 44 mag down to 44 special using hand loads- use 44 mag cases so you don't get the "crud" ring in the cylinder- you can then build the load as you see fit, aquiring controllability along the way- when i got into revolvers, i got a redhawk right off the button, and loaded it light to begin with-
