An Update from the CSSA

Hmmm... I figured out most of the above for myself. So what does my membership in the CSSA actually DO for my hard-earned cash?? I see the CCFR all over Parliament Hill and national/local media lobbying and conducting expository interviews on the many unacceptable aspects of C71. The CSSA, aside from this self-evident expose for the already converted? Not nearly so much...

I am not looking to bash the CSSA or the NFA, I just wonder what those "traditional" gun orgs are doing to effect positive change besides informing their memberships (aka. the converted). Can someone provide a list of tbe CSSA's anti-C71 activities undertaken in the past 72 hours? Very curious. Same with the NFA while we're at it.

It is all well and good to boost memberships and donations during a time of crisis, but what else have the traditional gun rights organizations been up to besides parsing the tea leaves for their members?

Exactly. I don't need them to provide me the news. I need them to do something. That's why I joined up in the first place.

One group representing all of the shooting community is probably not the best plan, multiple groups with a common message is most likely a better plan. My family and I will do our best to support all three, and give our opinion on how well we think they are doing...of course.

Been a CFFA member for a long time....

The ccfr www site looks better, but I know Tony’s working on things and sometimes it takes time....

I’m in my 40s and patient.....

Regardless of the org you support - let’s stay united and encourage all orgs to find a united front.

Me & my family vote for one reason & so should yours - reduce gun control.

I used to work in Ottawa dealing with the government for 20 years. You really need to be physically in Ottawa to get anything done and from what I can tell CCFR has figured that out. Trying to phone or email someone from another city just does not cut it.

I'm glad people are starting to see ( in our orgs ). I knew this and more in 20 minutes of first read and analysis. This bill is snakes and ladders to gun owner hell ... it's atrocious.

NFA and CSSA need to do a better job communicating what it is that they actually do. Looking at the CSSA website, for example, one gets the impression that they are mostly in the business of providing insurance and organizing matches. There is virtually no information about lobbying or advocacy. Their forum on this website isn't much better. The most recent thread is from November. I know that Tony Bernardo occasionally does media interviews and testifies before committees. Is that basically what the "Canadian Institute for Legislative Action" is? An ad-hoc, one man show?

Gun orgs always complain that they don't have enough funding and ask for donations. But they don't tell us how they plan to spend our money. And people generally don't like writing cheques without knowing that their money will be put to good use. If Tony came out with a concrete plain of action, i.e. the goal is to raise $500,000, hire a professional lobbyist, do X, Y, Z...I think there would be a lot more interest, especially at a time like this. Maybe start a gofundme page. But for god's sake, don't expect money to start pouring in when people have no idea what you do and your website looks like it was last updated in 2006. It's called fundraising for a reason. You have to convince people to give you money.

So according to this, you can only bring your firearm to a range in your province, and back form the store you bought it at? Does that mean hunting is banned? Something seems off to me on this thread.

ATTs apply to restricted firearms. Your non-restricted hunting rifle/shotgun is still fine to transport as before.

Now you cannot take your firearms to a gunsmith, appraiser or to the border without calling in to get a short term att.

Pardon my ignorance, but am I permanently barred from bringing my restricteds to a smith? Or must I simply apply for an ATT to do so like in the past?

Perhaps it is time for a huge Fed Up rally in Ottawa again, much bigger than back in 1995 and time for us to finally come out of the closet and demand that the harassment and blatant discrimination of US to finally end!

And all our organizations should be there in unison speaking on our behalf!

WE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM!
