Angle adjustment on shotguns

Which shotguns can be adjusted for angle so the comb isnt too low? Right now I am looking at an SXP but I can't see the bead with my cheek weld. I have to put my chin on the stock to have the right sight. If not, which shotguns would have that adjustment without breaking the piggy bank?

Cheers

None on an SXP budget. You can buy various pads to raise the comb or you can add an adjustable comb to an existing gun. Many trap guns and some sporting guns come with an adjustable comb. Most dealers on this site have at least one for sale.

Many if not most modern semi-autos, even the budget ones, come with a shim system to adjust drop and cast.

The problem with most of the pad-type solutions are that they also add thickness to the comb, affecting cast.

A good solution is available from the UK, very reasonably priced. Google Avalon Guns UK comb riser.

Shims are not always a great solution to adjusting drop to comb, because changing the angle of the stock also effects pitch, and the more angle you add to the comb, the more critical cheek position on the stock becomes. Better to shoulder various shotguns to find out which ones fit best, then fine tune with shims only if required.

There are some adjustable "budget" aftermarket stocks out there.

One example is the Magpul SGA stock and which is available for the Mossberg 500s and Remington 870.

Cost is around CAD $200.-

And you can buy a cheek riser kit with different height check risers. A Cheek Riser Kit adds another CAD $50.- ....

I had this stock once with a high cheek riser ... and on an 870 with a scope mounted .... Stock works fine ... good quality ....

Benelli Super Nova comes with shims to adjust drop and cast.

Awesome, thank you for the info! I will look into the risers and possibly the supernova. Also thank you for the info on shims. Looks like it is a smart move to shoulder a lot of shotguns. Cheers

Winchester SX3 and SX4 semi autos come with shims to adjust drop and cast. My SX3 has worked flawlessly for 4 years of waterfowling, 5 stand and skeet.

While SX-3 does come with shims, the SX-4 shotguns that I have seen do not, and there doesn't appear to be a shim kit for the SX-4, although the Maxus 2 shims can supposedly be trimmed to fit the SX-4.

Hmm.. it seems like a riser is the way to go. There are some posted in this thread, anyone find a solid (firm) one that can add like 0.5 inch ?

The Avalon ones reference above are a fairly firm rubber. If I recall, they come in 5, 10, or 15 mm heights. I haven’t tried to mount one in any permanent fashion though. I just wrap painters tape around them as a temporary fix during a lesson or helping someone sort out gun fit. The best thing about them is they do not make the comb thicker, possibly adversely affecting cast.
