Animal Calls

I am brand spanking new to hunting and having a great time. It feels so good to connect with nature in the winter, instead of waiting for the spring fishing! A couple people have been showing me the ropes and I want to make sure I am contributing to the hunts.

I was wondering if people would mind sharing some experience with me. I live in Southern Ontario so mostly I will be hunting turkey, small game, deer, coyotes, migratory birds, crows (I will probably snag one of these first), stuff like that. What are your favorite calls? Please include the brand (model if there is one) and what animal it is for. Any other tips on how to best use them are greatly appreciated!

Newshot, welcome to the hunting world. There are a myriad number of game calls available to the hunter. It's kind of like fishing lures, lol. You have to try them out & see which ones work best for you.
Right now coyote hunting is what most hunters are chasing. I personally like howling to locate & call coyotes. My favorite howler in Randy Andersons Hotdog howler. I like the removable mouthpiece & since it is an open reed call, you can make many different sounds with it, not just howls. I also have a Johnny Stewart cottontail call that works very well for me.

For turkey hunting, I recommend the Quakerboy Hurricane boxcall as your first call. It is waterproof & easy to operate. I prefer mouthcalls, but they take lots of practice to master.

Thanks George, great info. I will pick up that Turkey call, I am doing the course at the Sportsman Show in Toronto in a few weeks I also picked up a crow call this afternoon...my wife does not like it, she says it is not meant for indoor use, but truthfully, I don't think she even read the instructions.
