Annealing - Has anyone made their own set up ?

I just put in an order for my annealer components. The factory unit Tex uses in that video is now a little spendy on amazon.

48v 1Kw power supply, 1kw ZVS, 2 12vdc fans, 12vdc computer cooling kit, timer that has two sets of contacts (hopefully I can program it to energize trapdoor solenoid after each ZVS cycle), assorted toggle and momentary switches, 48v-12v step down converter. Just a touch over 300 for these components. They are all a month out from china.

I plan to build it all out on a board to ensure it works as intended before mounting it nicely in a case. I imagine it will be 400 by the time it is all done as long as I don't fry too many components on the way.

I used an Arduino to control mine and run the display. And a cheap solid state relay to switch the power to the zvs board. I made sure mine would work before cramming it all in an old computer case.

I really like the idea of the induction type annealers. I had already bought the parts for a propane style and made a knock off of one I saw online. My drive system is way too complicated but does work really well.
Seems I only have room for one photo, I got a little sticker crazy but is a homemade attempt.

Here is a picture of the guts....I scrounged all of the materials but the on line components ran about $135.00 Cdn [Not including some Tempilaq].Still a few refinements to make but makes short work of the job Should have tried to rotate photos, sorry !!

Nice job. If I decide to automate my annealing that's the way I'll go.

Instead of controlling the induction timing by powering the unit on/off, mine control it by the using the unit on/off switch through a relay timer which gives accuracy to .001 sec.
It took 2.85sec for .308 and 3.85sec for 6.5PRC casing. Here are the major components from Amazon.

All my parts arrived. Built something very similar. One problem I bought the 220v version oops. Says 110-240 on the unit. Wired it into 110. Takes for ever to warm up. 40 sec to get hot. I guess I will have to wire into a 220v plug now!

I manage to get 6.5 PRC brass cherry red in 3.5sec by winding my own coil using 12AWG copper wire.
The closer the diameter to your brass the faster it get hot but the brass must be held down so it doesn't "shakes" touching the coil.
Also, keep the coil from touching or you can use a sleeve.

Awesome Unic! I’ve been looking at doing the same thing. Looks like it would work pretty slick. There’s a couple induction heaters on Amazon. Wasn’t sure if one was better than the other. How do you like yours? One thing I wondered is how the rapid on/off using the timer would affect the lifespan of the induction heater. Have you been using yours for long?

Not very long. The modification I did is no different than using the unit normally except with more precise timing.
Unsure which induction heaters are better but I choose the cheapest one (it was CAD$300 and fulfilled by Amazon).

Do you have your timer setup for a certain delay time for example 3.65 seconds on 5 seconds off or did you just set it up to go in with the button switch and turn off after the 3.65 seconds not coming back on again until you hit the button again. I’m thinking that might be a good way to do it.

There are so many questionable contraptions, unbelievable!

Stand the brass in a shallow pan filled with water, 1 - 1.5” high.
Heat the case mouths and shoulders with a torch, then push it into the water.
The water prevents the brass in the case heads from becoming soft.
