I have been reading on annealing for a while but now I am finally planning on doing some. The other day I was down past Epps and I purchased from them the Hornady annealing kit and the Tempilaq that was in the kit was dried out and is not usable, also I would like to get some of the 700 degree stuff rather than use the 475 that was in the kit.
So where do you annealers get your Tempilaq?
Also has anyone used the tempsticks as I might be able to find them a bit easier.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
A good place to get Tempilaq is at sourcewelding.com, best price I found, and quick shipping. I would not go with the tempsticks does not seem to work as well. Another tip I would suggest is to paint the inside of the neck with the tempilaq and watch for the change. I found just painting the outside of the neck it burns off before the brass reaches temp. I would also recommend purchasing a bottle of the tempilaq thinner when you buy yours, cheap and will make one bottle of tempilaq last forever
 
I use 650 degree tempilaq it all depends on your set up. There is more to annealing then most people think but in the end consistency is what your after. I have a set up that allows me lots of consistent control so I can control where the heat goes. I have recipes that I use with lower neck tension that require what some would call over annealing but it works as long as it is confined to the neck area you do not want to mess with the lower parts of the case. One thing that is important when indicating with tempilaq is a nice clean neck area all carbon removed you should indicate both inside id and OD of the neck and down past the shoulder wet SS tumbling works best before annealing. On smaller cases you can use 350 degree indicator on the lower part of the case to ensure you are not annealing down there. Your set up should allow for even heating the blue part of the flame can cause localized over heating depending on your set up 1/2" way is a good place to start .308 and larger I am the flame centre of case shoulder as a general place to start. If you have a highly controlled annealing method you can let them completely cool and send them through again.
