I'm looking for a ballpark value on a rifle, which I bought for what is likely an amazing bargain price.

It is a Martini & Hagn custom lightweight .270.
Slabbed Remington 700 stainless action
Spiral Fluted bolt and lightened bolt handle
Light contour stainless .270 barrel
Wildcat Composites stock
Marked "Martini & Hagn" on the left sidewall flat of the action

I have no doubt that given the maker it will be a great rifle, but how much would a rifle like this sell for?

Sorry no photos until it arrives in the mail.

A rifle built by Ralf Martini early in his association with Martin Hagn. I can assure you, Martin was in no way involved in the building of a rifle with a Remington action (gak!) or a synthetic stock (ecch!). As for value, to duplicate the rifle would probably cost about three thousand dollars or so with used value running about half that much. This is, of course, only my estimate, which may have little to do with actual market value.

Thanks, that's about what I thought. I much prefer mauser actions and nice walnut as well, I've never owned a rifle with anything stainless or synthetic, or any Remington's, or a .270. I just can't pass up a bargain, especially on a rifle.

Although the name of course means the work was top notch, it's still a slabbed 700 in a wildcat. A wicked rifle, but I don't know if the pedigree will really bring any more than a similar rifle assembled by any other good gunsmith.

If it was a nice M98, that would be a different story.

Both Martini and Hagn are still active gunsmiths. Try emailing them and asking if it really is their work and what it originally sold for. Base your value on that.

Fixed it for you. I wouldn't have expected to see a stainless synthetic rifle coming out of the Martini & Hagn shop anymore than I would expect to see a fancy #1 sporter come out of ATRS. but it will probably be a fine hunting rifle.

I believe that Ralf did build such rifles. Either you sent him your action where he built you a rifle like yours, or; he made spec. rifles and advertised them for sale. I believe that they went for $2,200.00.......it was about 5 years ago when I noted this on his web-site. Ralf had built me two rifles in the past and refurbished and old SXS shotgun. He is great gun maker!

What Ralf doesn't know about guns probably isn't worth knowing. To hold one of his own creations, usually on a Mauser style action or Hagn falling block, in your hand almost brings a tear to your eye, "perfection" hardly does them justice. Fabulous workmanship! Member of the American Gunmakers Guild. Sports Afield did a write up on him last year, quite the history...can't find it online though. He recently designed a Mauser style rifle for Heym that they now market. Super good guy to deal with.

The Remington you're asking about almost certainly would have been supplied by customer and customized to his specs.
