I have some aluminum parts I want to have anodized. The problem is that I was a dummy and installed stainless steel thread inserts into those parts and can't uninstall those thread inserts.

Can aluminum parts go into the anodizing tank with stainless steel thread inserts installed?

My suspicion is there will not be a problem with the anodizing tank / solution because the shop has to hang all the parts off steel hangers. I assume the aluminum will simply anodize around the stainless inserts?

I had Ace Specialty Finishes in Calgary anodize some electrical boxes for me several years ago. I had installed PEM-style threaded inserts in them all, and was told that I absolutely had to remove them prior to anodizing. They were either carbon steel or stainless, I don't recall which.

Your should be ok. Double check with your plating guys though. Send em a picture.

It would be best with no insert if you plug is there is a chance it may work out.
But no anodized will guarantee it.
If you are doing type 3 mill spec hard Anodizing, don't do it!!

I don't believe the inserts would survive the process and I don't think the anodizing company would even do the anodizing if they knew of the inserts.

Heli coils can be removed and replaced .
There are several methods and tools demonstrated on you tube if you search “how to remove heli coils”

I tried to unscrew one of the inserts and totally destroyed the thing in the process. I have come to the conclusion those parts will simply not get anodized.

What about cerakote?
Can pretty much do anything with cerakote.
We offer that service, if you need something
If it's black you want, we cerakote black at least 4 /5 days a week .

Unfortunately that wouldn't help. It is a threaded part with 36 tpi thread. Even as thin as cerakote is, it would def screw up the thread fit. I'll just leave it as raw aluminum.
