Hi folks,

Today at the range, I encountered a rather mysterious headstamp:

Could anyone give any hints on the caliber ?

Thanks.

Nothing abnormal or too mysterious about that headstamp.

It is a 6.5x55mm Swedish military round made by 027, Norma Projektilfabrik, Åmotfors, Sweden in 1977.

I was actually used to have an explicit designation of the caliber on the headstamp itself, without having to google around. Though it would seem that most military ammo I have around don't advertise this information.

As you say, very little military ammunition has the calibre in the headstamp. Why would an army armed with a particular calibre rifle need the rounds headstamped with the calibre?

There are exceptions, British 9mm and early American .50 calibre rounds spring to mind but there are only a few.
